Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Mamas- losing hair?

So the past few days I've noticed that I've been shedding way more hair than usual.  The same thing happened when I went off the pill (and got pregnant immediately).  I've been on the mini pill since my 6 week appointment, and there's no chance that I'm pregnant again.  I'm wondering if there's some sort of weird hormone dip or something.  Anyone else shed more around this time?

Re: Mamas- losing hair?

  • just wait...it gets a lot worse!!  it is your hormones, supposedly you don't shed any hair while you are pregnant and then after you have the baby you will lose it.  i have been losing it for 2 months straight....and i heard it can fall out up to the first year!

Thanks for the heads up. I have a lot of hair, so it has been super noticeable.  And now that LO is grabbing at things, she seems to always have a few strands of my hair on her and/or in her hands.

  • Yes, it's disgusting the amount of hair I lose and I find it everywhere! I even found a strand in LO's diaper, it's gross. I pretty much wear it up all the time now in a bun with a headband and I hate showering cause that's when I pull clumps of it out. Seriously can't wait for this to be over. It makes a huge disgusting mess and it's just irritating.
  • My OB warend me of this while i was pregnant (probably because of too many sobbing new mothers).  I am glad she did but I still was not prepared for it.  I brush my hair before each shower and DH has still had to take apart the drain twice.  My pregnancy nails have almost grown out too.  Hopefully it gets better soon!

  • I'm losing a ton of hair too, but my hair was way too thick, so I don't mind it.  It is gross to find it all over the place though.  Hope it stops falling out soon.
  • Hair is everywhere at our house...  it's gross!

  • Thanks for posting this.  I just figure it was because of my way low fat Gall-Bladder friendly diet or maybe my relocation to a warmer climate. I feel liek I'll be bald soon!
March 21, I find out how far along we are. :)

My hair fell out like crazy during my 2nd tri, then it stopped until DS was about 2 months old, and it has been falling out ever since. I find my hair everywhere, and it's so annoying to clean the bathroom floor everyday. I hope it stops soon!!
  • It's embarrassing, its been all over my clothes. I go back to work tomorrow and a lot of my work clothes are darker colors (I have blondish hair). I will need to be busting out the lint roller constantly.
  • Hands down it's the worst part of the PP period.  I started losing it about 2 weeks ago and it just hasn't stopped yet.

I keep joking with my husband that I'm going to be Mr. Clean for Halloween, but I won't need a skull cap/costume.

THe grossest is hair showing up in food.  This whole hair loss thing is just GROSS, embarrassing and irritating.

  • Yes. I am SO sick of picking hairs off DD and DH. Gross. Not to mention the floor. Thank God we have a Roomba.

  • My yeti-shedding has left me with an unattractive hairline when I pull my hair back. Crying
  • I shed freakish amounts and have been for about 3 weeks now.  It is getting seriously depressing.  My hair was so thin to begin with.

This is hands down worse than any pregnancy symptom I had and I hate this way more than anything I went through during labor.  I would go through that all over again if it meant I would stop losing so much hair!!
