Managing Playgroup..Help

I'm in a playgroup that meets every other week.  One person has been sending out the emails announcing the event which has been better when the "hostess" sent out the email...the hostess sometimes forgot or sent it the night before etc..

I have been sending out the emails to the group and removing peoples' emails when they want to get off the list.  I have also been responsible for signing up people for specific hosting dates.

I would rather it be set up where people could unsubscribe themselves.

It seems like setting up a private Yahoo Groups would be the easiest route to go...I don't want to spend a lot of time on managing the group and I want the group to manage itself.

What do you guys do for playgroup management?

 Thanks a bunch!

We have one "leader," and she sends a facebook message each week to everyone with the location and time of that week's playgroup, and she also texts everyone the morning of.

When we do special parties or mom's nights, the person hosting will do a facebook event invitation or e-vite.

We have about 15-20 people in the group, and this system works well for us.

  • We have Private group on FB. It works great because anyone can refrence it at anytime. We have a few moderaters but all they do is sen the FB invite to whoever we want in our group

  • We use a Google Group, which is basically the same as Yahoo groups, I think. It gives you an "email address" which is a mailing list of all of our email addresses, so you can reach everyone at once. We use it to announce our events and playdates, but also if we have general questions, etc.

We started with a google group but there is no calendar function. So we switched to a yahoo group which is good because anyone who is a moderator can edit the calendar. It also has an RSVP function, and a very nice mailing list setup. Everyone in our group is currently given moderator rights, but you could do whatever is best for your group.

We also considered using a private group on Meetup.com but you have to pay for that so we decided against it. It has probably the best messaging and calendar setup though.
