Never heard any sort of connection with cereal in a bottle and ear infections. Tooter has gotten cereal mixed with formula by bottle since he was 3wks old.
Not sure about ear infections, but my pedi said unless they need it for reflux cereal should be given by spoon in order to start teaching your baby to eat solids from a spoon
Our pedi said spoon feed it, because they get full faster and if they're getting it from a bottle they dont realize theyre full til they overeat. I also EBF though, and since she has reflux we've done it since she was 2 months and a few weeks old. It seems to work okay.

This...
They have to learn to eat from a spoon, not a bottle.
Funny, I just posted a question about cereal in a bottle.
Anyway, my SIL said that she put cereal in her son's bottle at 4 months at night to help him sleep, but otherwise gave him cereal from a spoon. I tried this yesterday, and it clogged up the nipple, so if you do it, you may need to get new nipples. I hear the Y-shaped ones are for thicker liquids.
Nay...the AAP warns against it unless it is for reflux for several of the reasons already stated...it can be a choking hazard, babies can overeat, and it sends mixed messages about solid foods.
Some pedi's suggest it for babies with reflux. At the age of your DS, though, if you want to do cereal, just spoon feed it- there is no reason for an older baby to do this.
Nay, unless there are reflux issues. Also, my pedi says the sleeping better thing is a huge myth - may be coincidence, but it's not the cereal helping a 4-6 monther sleep better.
Our pedi told us to start DD on rice at 2 months. He said spoon or bottle. We just add a (formula) scoop to her bottle since she's still so small. I think once she hits the 4 month 'normal' solid stage, we'll spoon feed it.

Re: CEREAL in a BOTTLE - Yay or Nay?

Nay, unless your pedi specifically says it's okay for your baby. Some babies need it for reflux.
Your pedi may tell another mom that it is ok to do.
It can aspirate into their lungs and choke them. Very big no-no. I would listen to your pedi.
and PP... 3 weeks...yikes.
