My DH has a random question for you: Why did you buy Astroglide instead of a different brand of lubrication?

He is very serious in his inquiry - he works for a competitor (KY) and wants to know for marketing purposes.

this is both hilarious and embarrassing but i think i picked astroglide on a remembered recommendation from CJP i think it was that talked about it???? hahaha.

i also have a vague recollection from a billion years ago of ky being kinda sticky and icky though i don't know if that's the case anymore.. tell him i mean no offense! and if he can offer any insights into how to convince my dh to stop thinking about the baby so we can have some prostaglandin producing sex that would be lovely! :-D

Can people who are not Lyte answer?

We heard through our TTC research that it was better for the "fishies" than KY. More TTC friendly.

Lyte - it is somewhat embarrassing that DH works with that brand (and the resulting conversations) so much so that he told his mom he works on BandAid Stick out tongue . He also says to check them out again because the formula has changed (as well as the number of products offered) - try Intrigue for silicone based or Sensual Silk for water based lubrication.

Littleanomaly: thanks for the response, he appreciates all feedback like this. He also says that KY takes pride in the research on the effect of the ingredients on TTC and there's no science to support the statement that KY isn't as friendly and that they are so conservative that they do lots of research on this sort of thing and wouldn't release it if there was any harm to any part of the TTC process.

He did mention that I could note that he might be a bit biased Big Smile

this is the most hilarious post ever and the bandaid bit made me literally LOL and dh wants to know why but to tell him i'd have to admit that i went to my interwebz people to complain that he won't put out hahahaha..

so can i safely assume he brings home all their new and interesting products? do you have a review of that 'yours and mine' or whatever it's called?? lol..

Oh no, I never saw anything that said it was BAD, just less sperm-friendly. I didn't feel like going to a specialty store or ordering pre-seed online. I think we did just fine as it was, lol!

We also tried the KY silk, but uh, this might be TMI, but it just wasn't as effective as long as the Astro.

i did order the pre-seed online when ttc and liked it though def didn't need to use the full applicator full the rec'd - that was a DISASTER lol. but we used the very very last of it the cycle i got pg otherwise i would have just gone with that! lol..

As for Yours & Mine, I have a less than favorable review as I fell in the minority who experience a burning sensation instead of a more pleasurable one (talk about TMI!), however, they get lots of comments about how great it is and is the most successful product they have going right now. And, yes, free samples are easy to come by in this house.

Can I answer, too? We switched from KY to Astroglide during this pg. I like them both but for different reasons. I like the feeling of the Astroglide better but it does wear out faster than the KY, so it depends on which one of those you favor more. The Astroglide is messier as well becuase it is runnier. That said, I went with the Astroglide because some information from the midwives we got said you should use water based lubes only during pregnancy. DH seems to prefer the Astroglide but he'd upstairs so I can't ask him why at the moment.

I should add, for your DH's sake, that our tube of KY is probably between 3 and 5 years old and should probably be replaced! OH and its not like the one tube has actually lasted us 5 years - we don't use it regularly! haha.

We tried the silk because most of the silicone based lubes (again, TMI) make my girl bits burn if DH decides to take his precious time.

I love this thread!

And I would just say that we have Astroglide in the house at the moment but I can't remember the reason why I bought that instead of something KY. I think it was probably just wanting to try something different as I've never bought/used Astroglide before.....and I must say that I find Astroglide just as sticky (couldn't tell you if we've got silicone or water-based....I'm guessing water). What will I buy next time? Who knows.

And I am apprehensive about the Yours & Mine (or whatever) and the warming one for the reasons you said.....burning instead of pleasurable!

In a terrible yet hilarious intersection of business and this TMI conversation, DH had another suggestion for you Lyte: "try the new product, Kissable Sensations: put some of that on your va-jay-jay and then your DH will do you" (and yes, he said "DH")

He also mentioned that you have to make sure you're comparing water based with water based and silicone based with silicone based as both KY and Astroglide make different versions of their product. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm comparing a silicone based KY and a water based Astroglide since we ordered the Astroglide online specifically to have a water based one to use during pg.

Also, the Yours and Mine I purchased and then read the directions that said to ask your health professional if you were pregnant or nursing and not wanting to ask my midwife becuase I'm a huge prude I just emailed KY and they responded that I should not use it while pg or nursing. I don't have any clue why, though.... think your DH could answer that one?

Some input on the warm sensations one... We used that once a few months after having ds and it burned something awful. I was in tears and didn't even attempt anything for a couple months because it burned so badly. I'm actually afraid to ever try that again even though we had tried it before children without reaction.

Sam - I can say that I bought the Yours & Mine because your dh works for KY. But I had the same reaction you did. Sad I was pretty bummed.

I didn't know they made a silicone one. I will buy that next after our small bottle of the one I bought at the Smitten Kitten is gone. I will also recommend that they carry the KY silicone as they carry some other KY stuff.

And...a little note about what they told me there. You can't use silicone lube with silicone toys so if you are going to use a vibe or anything like that you have to use water based. They also suggested that if the water based gets sticky to use a little water to "reactivate" it some.

This post is hysterical.

We have Astroglide. We don't use it. But I bought it after experiencing KY as sticky and goopy. Glad to hear they are improving things. & I agree about the fear of the warming liquids becoming burn-y. I doubt I'll ever try it for that fear alone.

We used the warming kind once (not sure of the brand) and promptly threw it out. Warm my butt!!! Try fire crotch!!!! We tried a tingly one too and that was just crazy. I had to take a bath right afterwards and a shower the next morning and I was STILL tingly.

New product they are developing - its not a lube, its a foreplay aid from what I understand; comes in a pack with chocolate and strawberry (DH says the chocolate tastes more like caramel but the strawberry is really good). He says WalMart should have it on the shelves now, other retailers should be starting to stock.
