Two Under 2

If you and DH are tall-- please recommend your car

We are expecting boy #2 this August and our first son will be 18 months old. We are going to trade in one of our cars (a Honda Civic) because both DH and I would be eating our knees with a carseat on the driver's side (I'm 5-10, he's 6-2).

Any recommendations for a car with enough room for 2 carseats, tall driver friendly,  and a fair amount of trunk/storage space? I'd like to avoid a huge SUV but am open to a smaller one, or (I can't believe I'm saying this) even a minivan. Or a station wagon. Any recommendations would be great-- thanks!

  • i never wanted a minivan, but just got an 05 touring model honda odyssey. LOVE it. the remote buttons open and close the doors and trunk, makes my life really easy even now, with two it should be a great car.

  • I'm 5'9", he's 6'5", and we now own an '05 touring model Odyssey as well.  We had our first 2(20 months apart) in my '05 Accord and it was TIGHT w/ DD rear-facing behind me.  My DH could never drive us as a family until we got the van.  We looked at Expeditions, Tahoes, etc. while I was pregnant with #3.  Even Explorers are too small for us for leg room reasons with car seats.  I am amazed that my DH can fit in the van and drive it comfortably(I assumed they'd have the same leg room as a car or average size SUV).  We always said we'd never drive a min-van and we LOVE ours now.  Our #2 & #3 are 15 months apart so we have 3 car seats in there and there's still enough room behind the 3rd row for my double BOB and single Peg(and I can still go to the supermarket and fit at least 5 bags w/o having to remove the strollers.  AMAZING.
  • I am 5'10" and currently driving a Nissan Sentra. I will be needing a new car also. :( I'm interested in seeing if any actual cars get recommended.

DH has a Mitsubishi Gallant and I don't think we'll we'll need to trade his in, but we have tested this theory yet. (We both drive to daycare pretty equally so both of our cars have to be comfy.)

  • We currently have a Jetta, which is okay for one baby and one seat. However, with a 2nd coming now, we are also going to be getting either a Chevy Trailblazer, Pontiac Aztec, or Hyundai Santa Fe.

I also can't see myself getting a minivan, and I have seen all three of these vehicles work with 2 children!
