Anyones LO still hate Tummy Time?

My LO still hates to be on her tummy. She does like a couple of minutes of tummy time and then crys crys and crys. I get right down there with her and play with her but she does not want no part of it. She does lift her head up and she will sleep on her tummy when you are holding her on your chest or over your shoulder. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem? What have to done to help your LO enjoy tummy time more. We go see the pedi on Friday so I will be asking him about this. Thanks

Re: Anyones LO still hate Tummy Time?

  • L hates it - she starts whining the second she goes down and then we'll hit full-blown scream within 2 minutes. I've stopped doing it mostly. She doesn't even like the recline of the bouncer - she wants to be sitting straight up... loves the Bumbo.

  • When LO gets fussy on her belly I put her on her back.  After awhile, she gets bored and turns over to her belly on her own so she can see everything that is going on.  You could always try putting LO on their back and letting them roll to their belly when they are ready or even put something under their chest so they have a little elevation.

  • I had the same problem and I started to use the Boppy pillow to prop them a little. They loved it. I think its cause it makes them a little higher so they can see better. they even started propping themselves up better. Now my DD just started rolling onto her belly from her back a couple days ago so we no longer uses the boppy for her tummy time cause she is fine on the floor on her belly. :)

  • DD is pretty good with tummy time now, but she used to hate it.  I would prop her on the boppy to get her to stay longer.  Now, if I put toys in front of her, she'll grab/play/eat them, so that helps too.
  • DD used to be the same way with tummy time but now she loves it. I didn't really do anything to get her to like it, it just took time. I put toys down for her to play with and when she gets tired of being on her tummy, she'll roll onto her back to play.
  • My LO hates it to and i have tried everything. Boppy, tummy time play mat, my legs, holding her chest with my hand.  I have been able to keep her happy for maybe a minute using the tummy time pillow and a baby buzzer.  She seems to last longer if we do tummy time right after she wakes up from a nap.

I ask my pedi about it and she told us not to do tummy time.

  • MIne still hates straight 'on the tummy' time ... but loves sleeping on me on her tummy or other forms of tummy time.  LO does tolerate straight 'on the tummy' time a little better than she used to.  Daycare has helped with that.  THere are a couple of babies that do tummy time at the same time there.  INfant support group?  lol

I'm starting to think that DD is going to go straight from on her back, to sitting to standing sometimes because she is so averse to tummy time.  She does 'half' rolls all over the floor, though, it's totally hilarious.

  • My lo still hate tummy time...I've tried everything too...I can maybe get 1 minute...Pedi said to keep trying...but not to push it if she starts screaming.  It's funny I think she just gets frustrated because she's a leg kicker....so she is almost crawling cause she pushes her legs and then her head is on the floor ... it's really frustrating because she doesn't push up really with her arms....although she will lift her head... sigh...I guess I have to be patient.
  • My DD is the same way. She has NO interest in being on her belly unless she is sleeping (which she loves). After about a minute she starts screaming and doesn't do anything but lift her head a little bit and look at me and scream. I don't torture her, so we don't do it long. She has great head and back control, she's starting to sit herself up and she loves being in the bumbo and exersaucer so we stick to them. Good luck!

  • DD doesn't like it either.  She much prefers to sit up or stand (with my support).  I figure her neck muscles are getting a workout either way.
  • Most babies dislike Tummy Time initially.  But it is an important part of their development in order to avoid delays and strengthen neck, arms and core muscles.  Start with some ?tummy-down? holds to get her used to the position.  Try carrying her in a ?football? type hold ? tummy-side down close to your body.  Instead of soothing her propped on your shoulder, put her across your lap, face down, with your hand on her bottom to keep her from rolling off.  For more tips, check out this website from Pathways Awareness: https://bit.ly/8IhuuF.  With a little practice you can both become Tummy Time pros!c
