So, remember where I couldn't get in to see my OB until 18 weeks, so I thought I should find a new one?
Well, none are available in the entire city. So I'm back to square 1.
And there's no cancellation list for my OB, so I asked "there's no way I can get in earlier?!" They said I could get my family doc to send a new referral saying why it's urgent that I get in earlier. So, I have an appt with my family doc tomorrow morning. Hopefully she'll send that referral.
But am I overreacting? Is it too much to ask to see a high risk OB before 18 weeks, considering I'm high risk with uncontrolled type 1 diabetes?

Re: Please tell me if I'm overreacting.
Do you mean no other OBs are available within the practice or you can't find one anywhere? If it's the first, I'd definitely switch practices. You should not wait until 18 weeks to be checked considering you are high-risk. Otherwise, I think it's good that you're getting a referral from your regular doc.
That is just insane that your doctor can't get you in. I called my doc two days ago b/c I thought I might have a UTI and they got me in today. What happens if you have an urgent situation in the future? Will they fit you in? You might want to ask those questions.
I hope you get to see a doc soon!

I can't get one anywhere! In the whole city!
I don't think you are overreacting at all! My OB wants to see all OB patients at 6 weeks. I can't imaging waiting until 18weeks!!! That just sounds crazy
That is just ridiculous!!! Wow, I'm sorry. Definitely demand that your regular doctor write a referral to get you in sooner. What a pain!

I will likely not see my OB until around 20 weeks also. But that does not mean I don't receive any prenatal care until then, I see my GP for all of my appointments until then. Most of the care you receive early on is just the basic stuff that a GP can handle anyways. Though, with you being high risk I'd ask some questions about that.
So there is a downfall to the Canadian health system?
In all seriousness, no, I do not think you are overreacting. 18w is a LONG time to not receive prenatal care, especially if you are high-risk. GL.
Ridiculous.
This would be my big worry!

OP, 18 weeks before seeing the OB is the norm in your province with regular appointments with your GP until then unless its a special case which you are so you shouldn't have any problems an early referral tomorrow. GL!
ETA: I forgot to ask you've already had an ultrasound? I won't see my OB until I'm 14 weeks but I had an ultrasound last week.
