Anyone use Reglan?

My milk supply is low due an initial poor latch from LO and so I'm currently pumping and supplementing w/ formula but hope to get my supply up ASAP to EBF.

My Dr suggested Reglan - has anyone used it and been successful in upping milk production?

Re: Anyone use Reglan?

  • I never used it, but it has some serious side effects I would check out before going on it. . .for both you and baby.  There are other things you can try, too, to boost your milk supply.

  • My LC suggested Reglan or domperidone when I had supply issues with DD.  I chose the dom, because Reglan can have side effects of sleepiness and even depression.

The domperidone worked great for me.  I noticed an increase in supply within about 36 hours, and I was able to cut back a bit on the dosage, because I was getting too engorged.  I had no side effects from it, except that it possibly could have been responsible for the fact that I had no AF.  I think it kept Prolactin level high enough, even though DD was STTN, that it kept me from ovulating.  So I didn't get AF until I stopped taking it and weaned (at 16 months).

  • I've been taking Reglan since LO was about a week old due to my milk never coming in/low supply issues, and it has worked great for me.
  • I took it for about a month, and while it did nothing for me, I did not have any side effects.  The most common side effect that is worrisome with Reglan is depression, and I took it even though I had PPD.  I did not notice an increase in my PPD symptoms.

I also took domperidone, and I feel like that helped me a bit more than the Reglan, especially combined with all my other supply boosting efforts (powerpumping, fenugreek, etc.)

  • I finished a 2-week prescription of Reglan last week. I didn't notice any side effects other than having uncomfortable BMs. I've also been increasing my pumping sessions so I'm not sure what's helped more but I've gone from pumping 2 1/2 oz to about 4 per session, sometimes 5.
