Airport: carrier vs stroller/carseat

We are flying cross country in a couple of weeks to visit grandma and grandpa.  The will most likely be able to borrow a stroller and car seat for our visit if we ask.  What I'm wondering is, would it be easier to carry our 2 month old around in our 2in1 Jeep carrier or lug around the carseat and stroller?  We have one layover on the way there and one on the way back.

Re: Airport: carrier vs stroller/carseat

  • I am flying to Ohio from California on Tuesday and I am just using carrier, I think it will be less of a pain in the a**

  • Definitely a carrier! Make sure they like it and are used to it before hand though.

  • Definitely a carrier. We have traveled with a carseat before and it was a major pain! But we didn't have the option of borrowing one when we reached our destination.
  • I completely agree with the carrier.  I used one when I flew across country with my first and could not imagine lugging the car seat and stroller off and on the plane.  If you can borrow the car seat and stroller at your destination, there is NO question.  I had to check my car seat when I flew.

  • Don't forget that you need a carseat for getting to/from the airport anyway (unless someone is dropping you off/picking you up). We did several flights ranging from half an hour to four hours when DD was 7-9 weeks. Took the stroller, carseat, and base since we didn't have them at our destinations.

We have the Chicco Keyfit 30 and it's so big/heavy. I wish we had gotten a Snap n Go to use as the stroller part when we were traveling. The stroller got beat up when we gate-checked it on our first flight, so we bought a stroller bag for the other flights. Then the airline ripped the stroller bag! Not sure what they do to the items that they gate-check (run over them a couple times with the plane, maybe?), but they aren't treating them well, that's for sure.

  • I have always traveled with the carseat and snap n go but I needed them at my destination.  It was easy to use in the airport, however, if I didn't need them I'd probably just do the carrier.
