I despise that feature. I have set my privacy settings to the most private possible, including not allowing my profile to show up in a search, so why would I want my name popping up on someone's profile randomly, just because we have friends in common?
we used to joke that it should be called "people you may hate" b/c they are people who you know that you know, but for whatever reason specifically don't want to be friends with them!
Yeah that feature drives me nuts! ?They always show me people that I don't want to be friends with, or the same people show up that I have no idea who they are, they just happen to be friends with someone that I'm friends with.
I just read a Consumer Reports magazine yesterday and it said to keep your account as private as possible due to ID thefts. No geographical location, birth date or LO's name were a few of the things to not have on your page. Thieves search through social websites looking for personal info. to grab. Set all pictures and video to 'Just Friends'...not 'Friends of Friends' mostly everything else should be viewable to just yourself. If your friends need your # or email address, they should ask you for it...don't have it out in the open. I think FB should get rid of all the personal info. it asks, Employment and Educational history for example.
A lady in the article had her picture stolen off her FB page and someone used it on a dating website. Creepy.
Re: Facebook really needs to turn off the "people you may know" feature
I hate it too. My ex keeps popping up. Thanks, but no thanks.
What irks me is that if I'm seeing him, surely he's seeing me too.
I have this same issue!
Mav, I am not aware of a way to turn it off. If you figure it out, let me know.
This is fairly obvious but...
