twin or full??

We need to purchase new furniture for my 2 year old daughter (she is still in a crib).  I'm debating between a twin bed with trundle or a full size bed.  The trundle would give her more space, but I'm thinking she would be more comfortable in a full as she gets older.  The full will actually end up being cheaper.  WWYD?

Re: twin or full??

  • I had a twin bed growing up and that is what we will buy my daughter.  Our bedrooms are not gigantic, so the twin will fit better in her room than a full.

  • I have a 15 yr old boy who still sleeps fine in a twin.

They'll have twins in their dorm rooms at college.

    She'll be fine space-wise in a twin.

However..... we're considering a queen for one of our boy's rooms so it can double as a guest room when we need a bed 2 adults can share.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • We went straight to a full.  Mostly because we had an extra full size bed, but I'm glad we did.  Its a good size and I think we could take down his bed rails already.  Gives him more room to move at night.
  • DH and I both slept in twins (Twin XL starting in H.S., as we're both 6'+) until we graduated from college; I'm sure your child will be just fine in one. We have 3 y.o. DD in a toddler bed and bought a twin w/ trundle that is a guest bed now, and can become hers in a year or two when she outgrows the toddler bed. That is more functional for sleepovers than a full, can be a K guest bed, and takes up less space. We're military, so move a lot and have small to modest rooms, so it was a clear choice for us!

  • We are doing twin beds b/c each of the secondary bedrooms are 14x14 and I HATE a room that is all bed and not much else.   We want homework desks in their rooms, dressers, and bookshelves to fit.  Most importantly I HATE HATE HATE clutter.  You have to be able to walk in and have plenty of space or it feels clausterphobic to me and cluttered to me.  So this why to me twin is the way to go w/the dimension of our rooms!

  • We got DS #1 a twin bed and it is perfect for him, especially since he will be sharing his room with his little brother as of next month.  HTH
  • Thanks for your thoughts.  I think I'll go with the twin bed and trundle.
