  • I didn't need one but ended up with one by the end of the appointment becuase I was so nervous I'd drank a lot that morning.

She said it didn't matter since the baby's features were easily viewable.

  • Yes, I think you do need a full bladder. You can call your doctor or the place performing the ultrasound and ask...

  • No you do not.  They actually asked me to leave my urine sample before the ultrasound as my regular appt was following the u/s.
  • I did not have to have a full bladder, and they were able to see all of his parts just fine. GL.
  • No body even asked me or said anything. So I went to the bathroom about 10 minutes before my u/s. Glad I did will all the moving and pushing she did oh that would have been severely uncomfortable on a full bladder.
  • I was told to drink 24 oz of water a half hour before my appt

  • Yes you do.

I chugged water and she still had me drink more when I got there because there are very precise measurements they need, and a full bladder helps them see everything clearer.

  • I didn't have one because they did a transvaginal first to check my cervix.  The tech was still able to get all the measurements and images that she needed with the abdominal u/s.  But with my first pregnancy, I was told to go in with a full bladder.

It must depend on your doctors office, because I did not need a full bladder. I even gave a urine sample right beforehand.

  • I was told to empty my bladder 90 minutes before my appt. and drink 16 oz of fluid 60 minutes before the appt. They said to not drink so much water that you felt uncomfortable.
  • Yes you do.

I was told to the w/ DS, this time, they said nothing.  Look at this way...go in w/ a full bladder. If you don't need it, they will have you pee.  Problem solved!

  • My Dr. said to drink 32 oz. of water & be done an hour before the appt. I'm going to talk to her, though, because I really don't know that I can do that....

  • No, I did not.

I went in with a full bladder, but asked when I got there.  They said no, so I gladly relieved myself.  They got all the measurements they needed and I was only 17w2d.

  • It really depends on your Drs office - some do, some don't. If they didn't give you instructions in advance, you probably don't, but I would call and ask a couple of hours ahead of time just to be sure.
  • I am also going for my big u/s today! I was told to drink 1 litre of water 1 hour beforehand. If you weren't given any specific instructions, I would call an hour or two before your appointment and ask.
