I will be breastfeeding but will be going back to work at 6 weeks and will be pumping and breastfeeding. I am having a hard time choosing bottles to put on our registry. I like the Dr. Brown's ones and they have a pack at Target and I was just wondering if you think this will be enough bottles/nipples to get us started. The pack contains:two 8-oz. polypropylene bottles, two 4-oz. polypropylene bottles, 4 level 1 silicone nipples, 2 level 2 silicone nipples,Comes with four 2-pc. patented internal vents, 4 storage/travel caps and 3 stainless steel cleaning brushes. Do I need more bottles (if so what size) or nipples (what level)?
one other question, can the little vent piece things go into the dish washer?
Thanks so much!
Re: Dr. Brown bottle question...
The amount of bottles you get is just a matter of how many times a day you want to do dishes. Right now, we are using four 2 oz bottles and three 4 oz bottles and I wash them about 8-10 times a day (we are on 2-hour feedings).
The vent pieces can be washed in the dishwasher on the top shelf if you buy the Dr Brown basket thing to hold them (it should be sold around the bottles).
Sounds like enough to start with to me. I agree with pp - number bottles you ultimately want is mostly dependent on how often you like washing dishes. :-)
Also wanted to add, it's sometimes best to not stock up on one type of bottle before you're sure LO will take it. Once you know your baby will take that bottle you'll also have a better sense of how many you might want and then you'll go from there.
Personally- I would buy a single 4 ounce bottle to test out before opening/steralizing any additional bottles, just to make sure it will work for your baby. Also, I would get a pack of 4 oz. bottles rather that the combo pack- or at the very least register for 2 combo packs. To start out with for a newborn, I liked the little bottles so much better- the 8 oz. bottles still seem huge to me! I also liked to pump directly into the 4 oz bottles when I possible so that it eliminates washing the bottle that came with the pump, the 8 ounce ones are a bit more cumbersome to pump into IMO. Yes, you will eventually want 8 ounce bottle, but I thought starting with the small bottles was much more user friendly.
Of course, the combo pack may work just fine for your needs, but this is what worked for me. HTH
