Do you have formula on hand already? What kind?

Just curious if anyone has formula on hand already, and if so what kind are you using?  I'm hoping to be BFing so I won't need it, but now I'm thinking maybe I should have some handy just incase.  I know the hospital will give us some if needed right away too, so that's good!

  • Hospital gave us a week's worth last time.  So none on hand.  I think it was Enfamil...that's usually the kind they have sample sizes of.

the hospital gave us some last time . .it was similac and we went with that for DD.
  • Between my Dr office & random mail samples I have quite a bit of Similac.  Hopefully I won't need it since I plan to EBF, but I'm not going to get rid of it until I see how that's working out.

  • We have 2 sample sizes of Simalic. I plan on BF but signed up on the websites anyways just in case.

If you really want to BF, get rid of it. it's so easy in those early weeks to say eff it and give formula, which will hurt your supply.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • I am planning to BF, but the other day I got a bunch of formula samples in the mail. I am sure I might get some at the hospital as well. I think I am set for a while if BFing doesn't work out like I hope it does.

  • I too plan to BF (my goal is for a year) but a friend got me a package of the similac to go pre-measured packs for my shower, so that is all I have on hand.
  • I do (regular Costco brand) because I live in China and there is NO way I would use a local Chinese-brand formula after the melamine scare last year.

If I was in Canada, I wouldn't have bought any because I wouldn't want to be tempted to use it if things got tough with BF, but here I just don't want to take the chance...

  • I am not having any formula in the house nor will I accept any samples from the doctor or hospital.  I don't want to be tempted to quit breastfeeding or pumping, especially after I spent an arm and a leg on a pump.  I know myself and I am easily tempted.

  • I had some samples of Enfamil that came in the mail.  After a week of EBF LO had lost 16% of her body weight and was dehydrated enough to need an IV....I was happy to have it in the house when the nurse called and suggested I supplement.  We don't offer it after every feeding, but it has been a lifesaver helping to get her weight and urine output up.

  • I have a can of Good Start Gentle just in case I need it for some reason.  I got a rebate check in the mail for $11 off so I only paid a couple of dollars for it.  If I never use it, I will not be upset.
