2nd Trimester

eek...my stomach is moving!

Hey everybody:

I am 20 weeks... and most recently I checked out my bump and it seems like it moves a little to the rhythm of a heartbeat!  Am I losing my mind or if you sit still enough can you actually see the baby's heartbeat bouncing???

  • Pretty sure what you are seeing is your own blood flow.

  • I used to see movement but it was when the baby was kicking...never the heartbeat.  Could it be hiccups?

I was seeing that earlier than 20 weeks in my pregnancy and thought I was imagining things! You probably aren't, but it's probably your own pulse.

  • That would be pretty fast movements if it was LO's heart beat. I find it hard to believe, maybe like the PP said it could be your own.
  • i have noticed this too when i lay in bed and really focus on my stomach and hold my breath. (i hold my breath only so i can actually see the movement) so I made DH watch, and he says ' you know if you hold your breath your heart is still beating' lol.. he thinks it's my own heartbeat, but i thought it was the baby's too, i really don't know.
  • when you're pregnant the baby can get hiccups??? oh crap...i had no idea. how do you know?

if the movement is in a fairly steady rhythm, it's likely hiccups.  I feel my LO have this happen about 3-4 times a day!

Yes, mine moves like that.  It's just your own heartbeat or the extra blood flowing.

    It isn't the baby's heartbeat.

While you watch, put your finger on your pulse.  It's in rhythm.

  • That's probably your heartbeat, not baby's. It would be nearly impossible to see baby's heartbeat through your stomach muscles - esp at 20 weeks. Look at your chest next time you'll probably see the same thing. Or check your pulse it will be the same.

Yes and it's super annoying too!!!  DD used to get them all of the time.  DD didn't believe me that you could feel them until one day she had them and I made him hold his hand on my belly.  He felt them for sure.

My little guy had a ton of hiccups at my last ultrasound. Haven't felt them yet though.
