TTC After a Loss

3 losses... looking for hope...

So, I haven't been on here in quite a while, mostly because things have been so crazy... BUT I thought I'd stop by to see if I could maybe get some words of encouragement because I'm sort of at a point of losing hope, but I can't.

Thus far I've had 1 ectopic pregnancy and 2 miscarriages and they can't seem to find a reason why I'm miscarrying.  Everything seems ok on DH's end because he has a child from a previous relationship.  I'm ovulating normally and the eggs are getting fertilized just fine, but they can't find a reason why I'm having trouble carrying.  Is there anyone who has had a problem similar to this? I know I'm not the only one, obviously.  I'm just looking for some uplifting stories or words...

Thanks, ladies :)

I am so sorry for everything you are going through.

We are here to vent to, to offer support and to make you laugh, and I hope you will feel comfortable joining in. This is an awesome group of ladies.

I might suggest asking this on the Pregnant After Loss board as well - we are all still trying, but there are some wonderful stories over there that can give you some hope.

  • I'm so sorry for your losses!  I've had 3 losses as well, and haven't figured out what's wrong yet.  I agree with ambrandau about lurking on Pgal to see success stories, I don't have one yet.  Welcome to the board!

  • Thanks, ladies... encouragement and success stories are always good to hear when it's so hard to keep my chin up about things.  It sounds stupid but I almost think it would help to know that there WAS something wrong just so it could be fixed... it's so frustrating when there is no rhyme or reason for things to fail like they have... ugh.  DH keeps trying to tell me success stories that he knows of friends of his parents that had 3-4 m/c and now they have 2 or 3 beautiful children. I know he's trying to help but I know he just doesn't want me to be upset because it's true "when mamma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy" haha...

Have they run an RPL panel for you, or offered to a do a karyotype?

Also, are you seeing an RE?

It might be time to think about those steps, so you can get some answers. I get pregnant just fine, as well, but can't seem to make healthy babies.

  • I'm sorry for your losses.

  • Just had the RPL panel run on Tuesday, waiting for results.  Funny story, the girl from the OB-GYN office called me and the first thing I heard was "Hi, this is Lindsey from the OB-GYN office and I'm calling to let you know that your lupus test came back... well, we'd like to do it again" so, instantly, I'm like LUPUS, REALLY?!?!? WTFFFFF!!! THEN she decided to rephrase (after the shortness of breath she heard, I'm assuming) and said "Oh my goodness I'm so sorry, I need to say that differently.  They put your blood in the wrong blue tube so we couldn't RUN the lupus test. We're going to have to redraw your blood"  I just about fainted... mostly out of relief, but still... worst 3.5 seconds of my life lol....

Yikes! That would have freaked me out too.

I hope the results come back soon and it's good news.

  • I'm in the same boat.  Three losses, no definitive answer and no real plan moving forward.  I want to recommend that you read "Coming to Term" by Jon Cohen.  Although it is pretty dry and scientific, it really impressed upon me that even given what I've been through, the odds are still in my favor to have a healthy pregnancy in the future.  I hope you can find hope moving forward.

  • I am so sorry, I am going to copy my answer to another post today, but yes, there is hope.

I was told I had "unexplained infertility" for the first 1.5 years we TTC (no luck followed by an m/c once I tried Clomid). A friend of mine who had 5 m/c's in a row told me to read this book, as it worked miracles for her (had 2 healthy kids after reading it ? I got the book at my library):

    https://www.amazon.com/Infertility-Cure-Ancient-Wellness-Pregnant/dp/0316159212/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273169900&sr=8-1

(Read some of the reviews too, many people were told they had no hope before trying this.)

The book was so convincing that I found an acupuncturist/Chinese medicine practitioner in my area, stopped Clomid or any other western meds, and low and behold, I got PG the first month of TTC! Unfortunately, I subsequently lost her to my MTHFR disorder which I have now fixed and am TTC again with the Chinese doc's help. I really believe this made all the difference for me, and my friend believed in it for herself too.

Best of luck, just remember there is always hope!

  • Thanks for the book ideas! I've been looking for some more material to take up my time when DH's daughter is at her #$!%*& mother's house every other week....

I know we haven't been TTC for all that long, but I'm already at a point that I'll try anything.  I've never been opposed to acupuncture/Chinese medicine before. I've actually wanted to try it for other things (muscle aches, joint pain from high school athletics that have never stopped hurting) so now I have a bigger reason to check it out!

Also, being new, I'm not completely suave in the ways of acronyms.  If someone could point me in the direction of a reference page it would be greatly appreciated :D

  • I had three losses and my RPL workup was completely negative.  The American Society of Reproductice Medicine says that 50% of couples will have a completely negative RPL workup.  And 60-70% of women with recurrent losses will go on to have successful pregnancies.  I chose to do empiric treatment with baby aspirin and progesterone.  That is something you'll want to talk to your doctor/RE about.  Not everyone does it.  I can't say that it helped me because I was on baby ASA for my 2nd/3rd loss as well as the progesterone on my third loss too.  But have hope and faith....60-70% success is a good statistic.  Good luck!

  • Sorry!

    m/c = miscarriage

    PG = pregnant

And MTHFR is an acronym for the long name of a blood clotting disorder than can cause pregnancy losses

    HTH! (hope that helps!)

    :^)
