2nd Trimester

sleeping propped up

Is this okay? I'm at 27 weeks almost, so I know the entire laying on my back thing is a no-go...but I keep ending up on my back. My doctor told me not to worry about it and just to reposition myself if I wake up like this, but I forgot to ask if it might be okay to simply prop myself up, on my back, with a few pillows. My ribs have been hurting and side-sleeping is driving me crazy. Of note, I was NEVER a back sleeper prior to pregnancy. Ugh. Three...more...months.

If you are comfortable like that, then go for it.

My doctor told me that if your baby doesn't like it, she'll let you know!  LOL..

  • Sleeping propped up is good especially if you suffer from that lovely little thing called heartburn. And your body will tell you if somethings not ok. No worries!

  • My OB told me that if I'm comfortable and the baby is comfortable then I can go right ahead and sleep that way. Being comfortable will help get the best sleep and that is important.
  • I have never been a back sleeper until I was about 10 weeks, and now I go to sleep on my side and wake up on my back. Like a previous poster said, the baby will let you know when it's uncomfortable.
  • My OB told me that it's okay to just put a pillow under one of my sides to sleep so i'm not technically on my back. She also said that as long as I don't get dizzy or anything on my back then it's okay.
  • I actually propped myself up last night around 4am because I woke up with heartburn (I rarely get heartburn so maybe our baby girl is finally growing some hair?) and just couldn't get comfortable.  The only thing was I then woke up with a crink in my neck.  I was a back/side sleeper pre-pregnancy and I miss sleeping on my back.
