If I feel my electric pump is losing suction...

What should I replace? or what should I be looking at?

Is the tubing connected well?  Is there a hole/tear in the tubing?  If you have a Medela pump, I've heard they'll send you replacement tubing for free.

Or do the membranes need to be replaced?

  • What pump? Mine usually needs new valves (Lansinoh/Ameda).
  • Membranes, any valves, and/or tubing/connections are usually what they say to check first....depending on your pump.

Definitely check the membranes if you have a Medela. I thought my pump was losing suction and then I realized one of the membranes wasn't properly connected (I remove them when I clean the parts). It was still sucking, but not nearly as strongly.
