For you working ladies, when are you planning on taking your leave? I think I'm going to take 2 weeks before my due date.
I'm hoping I make it that far considering I commute to NYC and it is unbearable in the summer NOT being pg as it is. So, we shall see how it goes!

Re: When are your leaving?
Dude, while I ADORE NYC, I could not work in Manhattan. The commute would kill me...
That being said, I think I need to plan a day trip. lol
I really want to go right up until the end, I just worry about my commute if something happens, but I guess I'll just judge when the time comes!
Come visit!!!!! There may be other bumpies on here that work in NYC too LOL
I have two and a half weeks left, so I'll be just under 36 weeks when I stop and I can't wait!!
I have a lot of plans for things I want to get done during that time, so I don't anticipate being bored. I also am very fortunate to have 13 months off, so I'm able to take some time before without feeling too guilty about it....
Oh wow!!
how much maternity leave do you get? Is it paid in full? Are you planning on being a SAHM?
I have an hour commute to and from work everyday in DC, so I will be taking July off (1 month before my EDD). DC is a swamp in the summer, metro is hellish, and I worry about being pushed around and if something happens I will be pretty far from home/hospital. I'll be quitting my job so I'm not going to be taking that time away from other time where I could potentially be with LO.
I'm in the same boat. People are rude and pushy on the trains and the streets, and the heat is unbearable!
THIS...what ever I take now comes off then so i will work until they have to roll me out of this place.
Well, I am being induced due to various reasons in mid-August - so that is only 2 weeks before my delivery.
I will get short-term disability (b/c my Peri will write me out) from August 1 until delivery (this is 60% pay). I will then get either 6 or 8 weeks paid maternity leave (depending on vaginal or c-section) at 80% pay. I am taking Oct 1-March 1 off as an unpaid leave of absence (my company allows up to 2 years non-paid leave post birth/ adoption with 100% job security upon your return). I may do part time (I have the option of 2 additional years part-time after birth/ adoption after returning to work) for a few months until we get into the swing of things but we will not decide that until fourth quarter of this year.
Obviously, based on the above, I am going back to work.
That sounds very similar to the way my job is.
Totally this!
I would love to take time off before my due date, but I want as much time with baby after he/she is born so my plan is to work as late as I can. I am given 9 weeks fully paid and then I have 3 weeks vacation I'm saving, so depending on when I "go" that time could get me to the end of the year potentially.
I commute into NYC also, but I'm considering driving when it gets uncomfortable. I'm lucky though, DH is a fireman and so is his father and I can park at either of their firehouses (free parking in NYC!) and taxi it the rest of the way. Although I honestly have nightmares that I'm going to go into labor at work/in my commute and not make it the hour back home to the hospital I'll be delivering at...I don't know what I would do! I'm just hoping for a somewhat on time baby and that I go into labor while I'm at home or on my way home. One can hope, right?
LOL, this! I worked up to my induce date w/K.
I'll do the same this time too. Praying that my water doesn't break in front of the guys or while I'm here alone.
I plan to work until I give birth, but may try to work from home the last couple of weeks to be sure I'm close to the hospital (15 mins from my house but 45 mins from my office).
If I take time off before delivery it will just eat into my maternity leave.
Well I work from home, but my job can be very stressful and involved (like my co-workers and I are often still e-mailing or on our BlackBerries at 10pm), so I'd like to take a few days off ahead of time to just chill and get everything in order. My sister will hopefully be here too, and I can't think of a better way to relax than just hanging out with her, going to the beach, etc. I've heard that statistically women who take a break before labor have less complications because they are often more relaxed. I know that if I'm working on the day I go into labor, I'm going to want to finish things up, get a few last minute things organized, etc. So I guess we'll see how it goes.
My maternity leave doesn't start until the day I go into labor, so if I want to take time off beforehand, it has to be vacation/sick time. I guess I'll just start taking time off once I feel like things are going to be any day. The downside is that I only get 8 weeks paid (in full) maternity leave, and then another 4 either unpaid, or using vacation/sick time. I don't have a ton of vacation, so I don't want to use too much on the front end. Since I work from home, I might just go back to work at 8 weeks and limit my availability for calls and travel. I'll be working, but I'll be at home with the baby (and a nanny). I'm hoping we can use a nanny for as long as possible and then switch over to a small daycare or nanny share when the baby is older.

My OB generally induces if you go a week past your EDD, so I plan on working until my EDD or when I go into labor, whichever is first. I figure burning through 1 week of vacation early isn't that big of a deal.
Luckily I have quite a bit of vacation I am saving up to use to either extend FMLA or make more of FMLA paid.
