XP from GP: This can't be normal

So yesterday I noticed I was pretty sore in my lady parts.  Then I noticed the area surrounding my urethra (sp?) is pretty swollen.  Very weird, so I call the doctor.  They push up my appointment on Thursday to this afternoon, tell me to drink lots of water and use Tucks for relief.  Last night I was even more swollen.  This morning I wake up and the swelling has gone down some, there's a strange discharge in my underwear.  Then after I go to the bathroom I wipe and use a Tucks.  I noticed blood.  Wonderful.

So I call the on-call doctor.  She said it is probably just trauma from having sex - the last time we had sex was on Saturday!  Tells me to go to the hospital if I start contracting or bleeding increases and to refrain from sex for the next 2 weeks.  She asked me how I knew it was coming from my urethra.  Um, I wiped and then wiped again and again to make sure.  It's painful to walk, wipe and sit.  It feels like a pin is in there or something when I wipe.  My appointment this afternoon is with this same doctor.  This seriously can't be normal....

  • That definately does not sound normal.  UTI???  I hope the doctor actually has a good look at it and has an answer for you.

  • yeast infection maybe? does it itch?
  • No itching and no burning when I pee.  Sad  Those were my first thoughts too, but I don't have any of the typical symptoms of a yeast infection or UTI.

  • I would make sure they test for UTI and yeast infection. I was having some issues a few weeks ago (bleeding and back pain) and they did a urinalysis for UTI and swabbed my vag to check for infection. Those are the 2 most common things that happen from what my MW told me. Neither affect the baby.

  • My doctor told me that during pregnancy you can have a UTI but not have symptoms.  She said it was actually quite common. Good luck at your appt!
