vent: why do ppl think it's ok to ask about breastfeeding

I brought LO in to work today to show everyone (i'm not coming back until June, thank god). One of my coworkers asked "So you decided not to breastfeed, huh?" I just kinda stared at her blankly thinking she would get the hint...nope, i noticed that like 5 of my female coworkers were also staring at me ETA: and then she said "why not?!" in a confrontational tone of voice

So I just said "no, it's not for me", when the truth is i REALLY wanted to but my antidepressants aren't safe for BF, but obviously that is NONE of their business. Then another coworker said "you didn't even TRY?!" and I just said no.

oh it gets better, than another coworker proceeds to say"I don't blame you, breastfeeding is soooo disgusting, i mean, your baby sucking milk out of your boob, eeeewwww". So i told her i don't find it disgusting but it's just not for me.

Holy hell. Some people give you crap FOR BFing, and others attack if you don't. I can't understand why people think it's remotely appropriate to comment on people's choices.

I DO understand asking whether you BF or FF, just out of curiosity, and to see if a new mom is a fellow BF-er or FF-er, to swap tales and experiences, but to judge it? Commenting on it if you 'disagree'? ESPECIALLY not knowing any back-story, that's beyond obnoxious.

I'm sorry your co-workers suck.

I had a nurse ask me once if I was breastfeeding. When I told her yes she pretended to gag and said "EWWW!"

I absolutely hate being asked about this!! I know some women are fine with it and have the mind set of it's only natural. But to me it's personal and I don't want to go into details about my boobs with anyone especially a co-worker.

It is really sad how judgy some people are. I got some flack for not breastfeeding, but when it comes down to it, I made the best choice for me and my family.

hahaha so true!! I don't understand why complete strangers think its OK to ask questions like that either. I don't ask you about your boobs, don't ask me about mine! lol

I'm always amazed at who wants to know, too. A family member is re-doing our roof and he was asking me. Mind you, he's over 60 and has grandchildren of his own. It just seemed strange that he was interested or even cared!

This makes me think of the time I went to the grocery store a couple weeks ago and bought a bottle of wine. The cashier lady looked at DS then looked at me and said "is that wine for you?" How does she know if I'm BF or FF? And what the H difference is it to her? I told her it was for cooking, which was only half true...I fully intended on consuming the rest.

I think it's another example of when you become pregnant your body and your business become public property (not that it should, but it seems everyone and their mom believes they have the right to ask and have an opinion.)
