Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What do you do about rolling over / scooting in crib?

DS rolls over onto his tummy in his sleep - which wakes him up 99% of the time.  He immediately starts pushing up with his arms and scooting and he screams his head off until we go in there and roll him to his side - at which point he goes back to sleep - sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for a few hours.

Is this just a stage?

Would you roll him back over?

What have you done?

We are going through the exact same thing with our girls. They have stopped crying though and for the most part just sleep on their stomachs when they do roll. Until a few nights ago we were just going in and turning them back over. So hopefully it's just a quick stage they are going through. Good luck!

  • Kate went through that a few months ago.  Now she rolls onto her stomach because she LOVES to sleep that way.  It was a few weeks of having to "rescue" her but now it isn't a big deal... she rolls freely back and forth without any issues or crying.
  • We went through this right at 6 months too.  We "trained" him to sleep on his tummy if he rolled over.  It took a few weeks but now he rolls all over and sleeps in any position :)  He actually started sleeping more soundly when on his tummy.  It made me nervous at first but he's really mobile so I know he'll be fine.
  • When mine first started doing that, it woke them up, too. So we rolled them over. A lot. :( But now they are better at rolling themselves and they prefer to sleep on their tummy sometimes so they don't wake as much. Soon he will be better at rolling himself back, good luck!

  • I think it's just a stage.  My baby girl started rolling on her tummy a few weeks ago, and she'd scream to be flipped back over!  Now she just stays there and falls asleep.  In fact, like others have said, she intentionally rolls over to her tummy now because she prefers to sleep that way.  It'll be a long one or two weeks until they figure out they like it, but hang in there!
  • DS actually started sleeping on his tummy as soon as he could roll over. He won't sleep on his back (just in the crib though...). When I put him down he immediately rolls to his tummy. However when he's wound up doing this knocks the paci out and he wails about that, but 95% of the time I put him down mostly asleep, he rolls over and falls asleep. I'm sure it will pass.
