Sanibel is a lovely place to go with your DD (except for I don't know what this oil spill is going to do to the gulf beaches?). W/out your DD, is Miami too far? Probably what a 5 hour drive?
Oh, sorry! I see day trip so Miami and even Sanibel might be too far. What about St. Augustine? We went there for our baby moon and it was a lovely trip!

I haven't been since I was pretty young and we usually just hung out on the beach, but I remember loving going there. (I grew up in Miami and we had family in Orlando, so we were in that area a lot). Hope you have fun whatever you guys decide to do! We are headed to Miami tomorrow and I can't wait for a vacation!

How the heck could I forget St. Augustine? There are some nice outlets out there and I LOVE that city. Everything is very quaint feeling and there are some really good eateries there, too. And the cobblestone streets are so cool (well, to me anyways). The fort is free to walk around, too...it's amazing to see the workmanship that was put into that thing!
Are you look to avoid theme parks? Wet And Wild is a lot if fun for kids and adults and kids and not too expensive. Dayton beach is nice and not too far. There are some great outlet malls too (Carters, Janie and Jack, childrens place etc!) I can't think of the one with all the kids stores is called but I think it's like premier outlets or something like that.
My 2 girls, both born on a Friday the 13th, are exactly 2 years, 2 months, 2 hours and 2 minutes apart! And Baby Boy joined us October 11, 2013!
St. Augustine is definitely nice. Just keep in mind quite a few restaurants/shops are closed on Mondays. (Don't know if you are going today or not).
Or you could go to Blue Springs near DeLand/Debary. They have cool springs to swim in (although not sure if it is warm enough for that yet). They also have manatees and canoeing.
St. Augustine, definitely for sure, no question about it. Perfectly different from Orlando, and therefore worth a day trip. The history there is really fun, the cobblestone streets, the fort, all of that. If you want a little history/architecture/art/shopping/etc., St. Augustine is a perfect choice.
If you're more interested in doing a nature thing, Blue Springs is a good choice. You could probably stop there or at the Merritt Island nature preserve on your way to St. Aug to see manatees, although keep in mind that they may or may not be around this time of year, I'm not a manatee expert, but I think they are more likely to be seen during the winter months.
Thanks everyone for your help! We are not doing any theme parks down here, only Sea World tomorrow, so I am trying to plan out the week ahead. Thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming--I'll check back!
Re: Ravings and any other FL girls
That sounds like a long drive... What else?!
ooohhh, i just googled and saw their is a manatee sanctuary park there, fun!
Have fun!!! We certainly are!!!
St Augustine is very cool - that would be just about 2 hours from Orlando. https://www.getaway4florida.com/
How about Fort DeSoto? It's about 2 hours as well... https://www.pinellascounty.org/park/05_Ft_Desoto.htm
Tarpon Springs is about 2 hours away too - sponge docks, plenty of Greek food! https://www.ci.tarpon-springs.fl.us/tourism/index2.htm
