We play this litle game with A that we call "one up". It's when she says "I like strawberries" and DH will say "well, I like bananas" and around and around it goes. It goes off into tangents like snakes, spiders (audrey says she likes them....lol) to grass. It's so cute. The best thing is listening to her keep like items together. strawberries to bananas, cars to trucks, spoon to fork, elephant to zebra etc...
Lately she is really into talking about her birthday and how she is going to have a princess party, Rye is going to have a fishy party, mommy is having a flower party and daddy is having a teddy bear party. (yeah.. a teddy bear party.. NO idea where that came from.. these are things she just makes up. lol)
Tonight she and Dh played, "one up" birthday party edition. Audrey says, "I'm having a princess Party" Daddy said, "I'm having a Sasquash party" so on and so on! Even loopy things like a Napkin party, mailbox party, juice party, chair, whale, dolpin, wine etc... This went on for a good 10 minutes at the dinner table. I was just laughing at what she came up with to continue her part of the game.
Finally she was repeating things and couldn't think of more so I joined in and Daddy and Audrey were a team. It went on for another couple minutes with him whispering in her ear and then she would respond. I said I was having a "pizza party" to her "We are having a hot dog party", this went thru a bunch of things, and then I said, I was having a pool party...all of a sudden her eyes got really big and she said, "I wanna go to that party!"
I was laughing so hard since this game as gone on so long and just all of a sudden that must have sounded really good to her. Keeps making me chuckle whenever I think of how she said it! ![]()
Sorry so long, it was just to funny to not share. ![]()
Re: "one up" game and funny things kids say.....
That's a great word game! I'm tucking that one away for future use. And the story is cute too - I can't believe how big she's getting. I want a mailbox party too.
Our families favorite word game works with the alphabet - basically the first person says "A is for ______" and then the second person has to repeat what the first one said and then add their own "B is for ____". It gets tougher as you go further down the alphabet.
