K threw up tonight. It was pretty awful. This is our first time with throwing up (we've been very fortunate) o I feel completely clueless. Poor darling got it all over her shoes and I think that was more traumatizing than the throwing up. She kept saying "My shoes!" and totally lost it when we took her shoes off.
I know I recently saw someone post the bland food rule and I cannot remember it. I'm calling the nurse in the morning but I'll need to get something on her tummy before I'll be able to get in touch with the nurse.
I'm just praying it was a one time thing and that she won't be up all night being sick. She seemed to feel better after she calmed down and she had a bath so I'm hoping that's a good sign.
Re: What's the bland food rule for when they throw up???
BRAT- bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast.
toast can include crackers
When my LO got sick on Christmas day, we followed the BRAT diet. However, she threw up so MANY times that my DH went out and picked up some Pedialyte. small small sips
Hope she's better real soon for you.
My dad is a doctor and he always tells me that after puking to wait an hour or two if you can before you put ANYTHING in the stomach (this goes for adults as well as kids). He says it's important to give the stomach time to settle otherwise you might just throw it all right back up. After a little settle time, gradually start back with a little bit of clear liquids, and he also says this is a time when sugar is actually good. He generally hates anything with sugar, and I've never asked why, but he always says sugary drinks like Kool aid are strangely ideal. But only a couple of ounces at a time, at most. He also says popsicles and jello are good. So, first is time to settle, then slowly add clear liquids, and then start in with the BRAT solids.
Sorry you have to deal with this, puking is the worst! We've been through 2 stomach bugs in recent months.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
