If the answer is yes, you will effing hate life every single time you pump. It took me about 20-30 minutes to pump. I did it every 4 hours at work. Double that with a single pump.
You will hate your life, and quit pumping in half the time than if you got a double. Are you going to EP or just pump occasionally? Pumping at work?
If you're going to EP and double electric is a MUST. Pumping sucks, everyone that does it full time ends up hating it...and doing it with a single just would not be feaseable. It would take at least 20-30 min of pumping each time, combine that with feeding your kid, washing pump parts, washing bottles, etc. There would be no time for anything other than pumping related activities!
If its an occasional thing, then you may be able to get away with a single, but I'd just go with the double.
How often will you be using it? Are you EPing? Or will you be pumping at work?
So far, I have only been pumping one side at a time because LO will be full after eating on one side. If I were pumping at work or pumping all the time, I would probably hate it because it would take forever.

Right now he is nursing like a champ. And my tentative plan is to wean to formula when I go back to work in August. So for now, the pump's purpose is to have a small fridge/freezer stash available in my absence and give Mr. J some nightime duties.
I'm thinking that IF I decide to continue to pump when I go back to work I'll invest in a double at that time.
WDYT?
Also, if I'm nursing and pumping when would I pump?
Y'all are awesome.

If it's just for occasional use, and you're okay with possibly purchasing another pump if you dont like the single and/or decide to EP when you go to work - then I'd think that the single is okay. But I'd look at the difference in price and see if it's worth it knowing you may change your mind later on. I'd rather spend an extra $100 or so now, rather than $100 and $200 later, KWIM?
As a full time pumper- I don't like doing it with a double electric, and if I have to use my single at work, I HATE it and consider stopping with the breastfeeding. Get a double.
So much easier to get a double. Just because I hated HATED when I would pump one boob and the other would let down at the same time. Then I would get all my boob pads wet and then you'd have to change 'em. . . It was just a hassle until I got the double.
Have you checked with your hospital about the option of renting? I think some do rent-to-own if you do decide to keep up with the BFing. Also, you might want to contact your insurance company because some will reimburse you for part or all of the cost of a breast pump.
As for when to pump - when I first started BFing, both breasts would let down, so when LO was at one breast, the other would start leaking. I held the pump up to that breast and caught what leaked. You can also pump after he's done nursing. You probably won't get large amounts at one time, but it'll add up quick. I've already frozen probably about 500oz doing that and pumping at night after he goes to sleep.
Re: Quick question for pumpers
Are you planning at pumping at work?
