Crib Delayed...... opinions please

I received a call yesterday that the baby furniture we ordered will be coming shortly - except for the crib.  The crib will not leave the manufacturer until the end of July - so will probably not come to me until the very beginning of August.

I called EVERYWHERE and found a floor model that has been displayed for about a month in a store that is 3 hours away.

I want to drive there tomorrow and buy the crib and cancel the crib with the other retailer.

I am due 07/01/10 and I am SO annoyed that a crib that I ordered weeks ago is going to take ANOTHER 12 weeks or so to come.

So just looking for opions if you would just wait it or would you take your day and drive hours to pick up a floor model (oh and save $120.00 too) to get the crib and have the piece of mind that you have it.

    I'd be making the drive to get the floor model! Saving money and stress.. bet your butt!

    Are you going to use a bassinet first? Or a co-sleeper? Or even the pack n play? I ask because we're not planning on using our crib until LO is 2-3 months. Even if you had to wait until early August, you'd be okay if you had another option for a month or two.

    Well do you plan on using a bassinet/pnp at first? Because if so I wouldn't sweat it because your crib would be there prolly before your LO will need it.

    I don't see how buying the store model would be a bad idea. Are you planning on putting LO in the crib right away? I know some people plan on using a bassinet/pack n play in their room the first few weeks/months, so if that's the case with you, it probably would be okay to wait for the other one to come in too.

    I'd drive just for the savings. Like PP said you may not use it right away, but it will also give you piece of mind.

    I would go get the floor model too, for the price alone. If you don't though keep in mind, LO will probably be sleeping in a bassinet in your room for the first month or 2, but I can understand wanting to have everything ready before LO arrives.

    I would call the manu and demand a discount or threaten to cancel the item. 

    Are you planning on using the crib right away or a bassinette?  If you're using the crib, then for sure go pick up the other one. If not, I'd take my chances with the manu and see what $ I could save there and just wait it out.  GL!

    It depends on the condition of the floor model. I would be inclined to wait for a new one. With DD, we did not use her crib for months. She slept in a co-sleeper at night and napped alot in my arms or the pack n play! And you never know, the crib may come in early :)

    3 hr drive is too far for me so i would probably find another crib.  that happened to me with my first pg....but after the 3 week wait they said now it would be another month- so i gave up at that point!

    If you were planning on using a bassinet I wouldn't be too concerned. If you aren't then I would definitely go check it out. My concern with the floor model would be any scratches or damages to the wood, but the discount would definitely be great and having a crib for LO would be comforting to me.

    Do you plan to put the baby in a crib immediately?  My IL's put our crib on layaway and because I am using a bassinet in our room the first few weeks/months, I am not really concerned when it gets here.  I have been on an hour car ride and was pretty uncomfortable.  Consider that before making your decision.

    And yes - baby will be in a bassinet for a while at first - I just really hoped that the whole room would have been set up first!

    This.  If you don't need it right away, then save yourself the long trip.  Then you'll have the crib when it is needed.
