pepcid/zantac/axid are all H2blockers and work the same way for the most part, and don't work great...
I sell a drug for heartburn (Dexilant/Kapidex) and used to sell Prevacid.
I took Prevacid when i was pg with Griffin and Kapidex/Dexilant when I was pg with the twins - they are Category B for pg (and prevacid is approved for babies as young as 1 and given to infants all the time by docs)... I know these drugs inside and out and felt very safe taking them.
Prevacid is now OTC in the 15mg dose (which might work - most people need the 30mg Rx dose to really do the job --- it's generic now, but still need an Rx).
Prevacid/Kapidex/Dexilant/Nexium/Protonix/Aciphex = all PPI's and work much better than H2blockers for heartburn. Talk to your OB and see if you can get an Rx - or try the OTC prevacid.
I thought I took something called Protonix, or Protonics... I am not sure. It was around the time my gall bladder went out, so it could have been for nausea, or HB.... it was digestive related .
Protonix and zantac are what my DH takes....I just take zantac. Also, if you are taking zantac ask your doctor for a prescription because your insurance will pay for most of it - I get 30 pills for $4 instead of an arm and a leg!
Re: Anyone get prescription meds for heartburn?
Prevacid is what I take on a daily basis, pregnant or not. With Sean I was on (at different times) Rantadine and Protonix.
In the mean time try taking some Gaviscon, it will immediately help your throat and esophagus.
