Night time PT?

DS has been daytime PT for a little over a year. About 2 months after he was daytime trained he seemed to be nighttime trained...he was dry every morning for 4 weeks so we started letting him sleep in underwear and he did great for about 4 months. Then he started wetting the bed every night and after about a week of wetting the bed we went back to diapers and he was wet almost every morning for a while. Then about 2 months ago he started staying dry again and was begging every night to sleep in underwear so we let him. He has done great until the last 4 days and he has wet the bed every night.

I am not sure what to do and don't understand why he goes through phases where he is dry for so long then wet every night again.  Do I put him back in a diaper again for a while? Do I keep letting him sleep in underwear and just clean him and the bed at night? Any advice would be great. TIA

Re: Night time PT?

  • Can you put him in pullups at night?

Night time PT is a physiological thing. Your child just needs to grow into his bladder. It's not uncommon for kids to be 4-5-6 years old before they are night trained.

Also, a lot of it is hereditary. If you or your DH were bedwetters, then chances are, your son will be too.

GL - it'll happen soon enough!

    I agree.

Emily was daytime and nighttime trained almost immediately, at 3 1/2 years old, it seems she was just ready.  But in the previous 2 months we have had some serious regression.  While it only lasts a day or two here or a week there, it's random and really frustrating.  Ugh!  I have nothing solid to offer other than I feel your pain!  What I am doing is just allowing Emily to wear underwear all the time, we've never gone back to Pull-ups and just reminding her how important it is to stay "clean and dry" and that she IS a big girl and doesn't need a diaper.  I struggle with making sure I get the point across and crushing her spirit.  :(  It's not easy, that's for sure!   Who knows what could be causing it... I'm just trying to count to 10, use encouraging words, and do the pee laundry after she's in bed so I can curse at the washing machine.   ha!

Good luck, you are NOT the only one!

P.S. For $8 you can get crib mattress size, washable, waterproof pads to put between the mattress and the sheets.  I have 3 plus 3 sets of crib sheets so I can quickly change her bedding for her comfort and wash everything at my convenience.  :)
