Fussiness after feeding--is my supply low?

I have been BFing my DD since she was born.  She eats about every 3.5 hours.  For the past few weeks, she has been getting more fussy but I attributed it to the 4 mo. wakeful.  Well, after her early afternoon feeding today, she kept fussing (like usual) and so I decided to try giving her a 4 oz. bottle.  She DRAINED it quick.  After BFing and the bottle she seems happy.

I'm assuming she is still hungry after BFing, but here's the thing...I still have milk.  I know this because I can squeeze it out myself after she's done!  What is going on?  Is she not sucking correctly?  Is my supply low for some reason?

 Anyone else dealt with this??

It sounds more like she's just getting impatient with nursing. I think that's normal for that age when they are starting to become more active and curious about their surroundings. Bottles are a lot easier and faster for them. My LO at times can be a very fussy nurser now and it helps to nurse him standing up.

  • Interesting--thanks for the advice.  I'm going to have to give it a try.  It would make sense that she is just getting impatient because she gets distracted easily.

  • Plus - the more bottles you give her...the more she'll start to prefer them. Are you using a slow flow nipple? We give DD a bottle before bed to "fill up the tank". But I try really really hard to not give her one during the day - even if I know she is fussy because she is hungry. I try to get her to nurse as much as she will.
  • It probably doesn't mean anything about your supply.  It's probably some other thing that's bothering her, and having an effortless flow of milk available was pacifying to her.

Keep up the good work bfing!
