I'm sorry it's taken me so long to post since we've had our little guy - things have been chaotic!
Anyway, here goes my birth story:
I had my 1st internal exam on Thurs., April 15 at 37w1d, and I never really felt right after it. It was really painful and I just felt nauseous the next 36 hours. My DH and I canceled our plans on Fri., April 16 and just had dinner and a date night at home. We reminisced about how great our lives have been together and how excited we are to expand our family. I told him I just felt like we were going to have our baby sooner rather than later. I had no idea how soon though!
At 2am on Sat., April 17, I felt a huge gush and knew my water broke. We quickly packed our bags and took showers to get ready for our big day. We got to the hospital around 4:30am and my contrax never started on their own. At 6:30am, we started pitocin to hopefully speed things up. My contrax started very slowly, but I was around a 3.5 at 11am. I got my epi then and we were hoping we were on our way. Things were still pretty slow until around 3pm when my contrax started picking up quickly. I was dialated to an 8-9 around 5pm. We started pushing around 9pm and our baby, Colin Reid, was born at 10:43pm. He was 7lbs 8oz and 20 1/4 in long. It was a super looooong day, but it was so amazing.
Colin did go to the NICU nursery for about 2 hours to clear fluid from his lungs, but he did fine after that. We got home on Monday afternoon and the days have flown by since. My DH was home until this Monday and my mom came for a couple days this week too. It's my first day by myself with our little Booger today!
Parenting has been a huge learning curve for us and we are quickly learning more and more about our little guy as the days go by. We are having a blast though! I still can't honestly believe he is here.
And, for all of you girls still to deliver.........yes, L&D and the clean up part is all pretty nasty, but in a strange way, you just really don't care. I was so worried about my DH being there and feeling embarassed. It wasn't like that at all - it was so much more bonding than I ever thought.
I can't wait to learn lots from all of you mommies out there! I hope to be back more consistently now.
Thanks for everything ladies!
