ARRRRRGGGGH - those of you who had swing nappers, how how how how did you transfer naps to their crib?? No problems at night but we are now on day two of trying to get him to nap in his crib and it is NUTS - falls asleep for half an hour max and then starts in with this crying/screaming thing that just escalates over time until I go get him. He is so tired and cranky - HELP!!!!
Re: Swing to crib question - HELP!
It was a solid 1.5-2 wks of hell. After that it kept getting better. We are going on our fourth week and she is doing much much better. She was a strict swing napper but sttn great in her crib. What I did was establish a solid naptime routine: lights out, sound machine on, soft dolly in crib, then I would read her a book or two in the rocking chair or sing nursery rhymes until she was calm. Then I put her down in her crib and leave. I allow crying for 5 min, then I go in and rub her back until she calms down & leave again, repeat up to 3X before I gave up on nap. I think I only had to give up on a nap once - she would eventually pass out. Now I rarely have to go back in. She has developed a thing of playing with her toes and babbling to herself and then she conks on.
I feel so much better after breaking this habit. I also went cold turkey - I had tried before doing one nap a day in the crib, other nap in swing and it never worked out well. I havent used the swing a single time since I committed to breaking the habit. Its so much easier now too if we are not home she will fall asleep if I put her in her carrier (she used to only fall asleep to motion).
Hang in there!
DD starts her nap in the crib, usually sleeps for 45min-1hour and then if she wakes up during the transition I put her in the swing to finish out naps.
I wish she didn't need to be in the swing at all but I know she will grow out of it.
