Size of hospital bag?

What size bag are you using for your hospital bag?

When I packed for my hospital stay with DS I used a vera bradley duffle bag and DH packed his stuff in a backpack.

I just remember packing up to leave and DH needing to make multiple trips to the car to bring all these small bags. On top of the bags we brought in we left with a free diaper bag from one of the formula companies, gifts, and assorted other bags of small things the hospital gave us.

My past experience is making me want to bring a larger bag that will fit EVERYTHING we will need so it is one bag in and one bag out. I was thinking a suitcase but for some reason it feels silly to bring such a big bag.

What are you girls packing in?

Re: Size of hospital bag?

  • I was told to bring a small bag to L&D and a larger one to postpartum.  I'm hoping to fit all the postpartum stuff in my small carry on suitcase and I'll have to find another smallish bag for my L&D stuff.  I have a feeling I'm going to have a lot of bags.

  • I'm packing a small suitcase...lol!  I don't know about the states but here the hospital gives you nothing anymore...so on top of clothes, booties, hats for LO, I've got to bring diapers and creams and everything.  Also, we stay in the hospital for 48-72 hours min. So I want to make sure I have enough, just in case.  (I would rather be over prepared than have DH run home to get something)

  • I'm using one suitcase for everything.
  • We're using the small suitcase from our luggage set for me and DH.  I have a mini diaper bag for LO.  The suitcase definitely has extra space for extras we'll need to bring home that we didn't plan on :)

  • I used a Vera Bradley duffel as well with DD#1, and will probably do the same with this LO.
  • I'm using a very small rolling suitcase- almost as small as a child's suitcase.  Then I've got one packed incase DH decides to spend the night (which can just stay in the car until we see how things go) and a diaper bag for LO.  I figure DH will be making multiple trips to the car regardless of how many bags I bring.

  • When you guys say a suitcase.. what size suitcase? A carry-on size or a regular full size? :) Thats my current debate. I started packing my bag and the travel on size is already full without putting in the laptop, camera, chargers, baby book etc.
  • I tend to overpack, so ill be bringing a regular size suitcase. for me, and LO and our extras. plus a diaper bag for LO and who knows what DH will do. we are pretty close to the hospital so he plans on making a trip home if he has to.

  • A duffel bag for everything - DH's, my stuff, and LO's stuff.  But there are things that don't fit, like the cord blood collection kit, My Brest Friend nursing pillow, and the breast pump (which I never took out the box).  I figure we could just bring everything in with us (with exception of the breast pump, and after LO is delivered and DH gets a free moment, he can run back to the car to get the breast pump so the LCs can show me how to use it.

  • I am bringing my carry on suitcase. I put all of my stuff, babies stuff and DHs stuff in there.

The hospital will provide a cart to take downstairs with us when we leave.

My DH will pull the car right up to the door, unlaod the cart and we will be on the way.

  • Vera Bradley duffle bag.
  • Small rolling suitcase.
  • i packed all of our and LO's stuff in a duffel smaller than a vera bradley duffel.  boppy will need to be carried in seperately.  i'm a light packer ;-)
