Lansinoh Affinity double electric: A Review

In case anyone was curious about the new Lansinoh double electric pump and how it compares with the old one, I thought I'd write a brief review.

I used the Lan. Double Electric (same as Ameda Purely Yours) for 8.5 months. It worked well and I stopped using it b/c I dropped it off my nightstand... for like the 10th time and this time it busted open. Totally my fault, not Lan.'s. I liked the pump b/c it's a) very small and easy to transport b) very easy to clean with a closed system c) cheap! (Got it for $85 on drugstore.com back when I was pg). I didn't like that a) the speed and suction settings are turn dials but clearly don't adjust up and down continuously (there were like 4 settings from what I could tell) b) the power adapter was kinda hefty.

The Affinity is much improved:
1) It has the letdown setting you find on Medelas. It starts in that mode automatically and you can push one button to make it go to this setting again (or to take it off the setting) at any time.
2) The digital screen keeps track of how long you've pumped.
3) The suction and speed settings are clearly marked from 1 - 6 for speed and 1 - 8 for suction.
4) The power adapter is much smaller and lighter.
5) The base is smaller/thinner.
In other words, it's even more easily portable, easier to adjust to exactly what strength/speed you need, and keeps the time for you.

HOWEVER, there is one major con. It's LOUD. Much louder than the Double Electric was. Not so loud that I think I'm going to disturb a person in the next room, but loud enough that I tend to cover it with a pillow to muffle the sound if I want to watch TV. It uses completely different parts from the double electric, so you can't use the old ones as a spare set or anything. I got it for $147 at my local Walmart. They did still have the original model for like $20 less but I'm happy with this purchase. I do think the improvements outweigh the noise con since I normally am not watching TV or listening to music while pumping. If you're worried about being discrete in your cubicle though, I would recommend the original over this one.

HTH someone!

Re: Lansinoh Affinity double electric: A Review

  • Thanks for the review!  I'm using the older model now, and I like it for the reasons you stated, but if I ever need to replace it I think I'll definitely switch to the Affinity.

Do you find the letdown setting to be very helpful?  Did you ever have problems with letting down for the other pump?  I usually have a letdown within 20 seconds of starting, and then another one or two depending how long I pump for, so I'm not sure how helpful this would be for me.

  • THANK YOU! I've been looking for a solid review on this pump.  I received it as a gift and could not find more than one or two reviews online about it.  They were all very short and didn't include much detail.  I'm so glad this is a good pump.

I never had letdown problems until around 6 mo. I used the pump a lot at first (DS was preemie and in the NICU) but then just once a day until 5 mo. After going back to work, I started having supply issues (sort of, fairly temporary) and letdown issues. I too would get an immediate letdown and then another one about 10 min. in, but I would go 10 or 15 min. and still not have a letdown sometimes. Not to scare you that this will happen to you!

The setting is nice and does help me get more letdowns. Probably varies from person to person though.
