Pregnancy Gingivitis? Anyone have it?

I think I do - my gums have been really sore lately and it hurts to floss...(and sometimes bleeds)

Anyone else have similar symptoms but no PG?  I'm hoping that I'm overreacting!

Re: Pregnancy Gingivitis? Anyone have it?

  • I have it, but I was assured by both the dentist and the midwife that it was pretty common, and will go back to normal after the baby's born (actually, after I finish breastfeeding).

  • Yep.  My gums bleed everytime I brush &/or floss.  I never had this problem prior to pregnancy.

Same here!  My teeth and gums have been hurting lately though.  Ugh!

  • Yep, I have it and my dental hygienist said the best thing to do was to floss as often as you can. Oh and sorry to be a debbie downer but it only gets worse if you plan to breast feed. My teeth/gums hurt so bad the entire time I nursed DD.
  • I had it with DS.. went away as soon as DS was born.  Don't have it with this pregnancy...

  • my first pregnancy my gums bled everytime i brushed or flossed.  my dentist had me go in for an extra cleaning, and they always very gentle.  it seemd to help a lot. my second pregnancy i had no problems. now i'm in my third, and it's been the worst for my teeth so far (i even had to get a wisdom tooth out at 16 weeks).  i just brush and floss more through out the day.  so far it's been helping.  also, i guess i was lucky because any trouble i had stopped once my babies were born even though i nursed for a year and half with each.

  • I just got diagnosed this morning at my cleaning appt.  The dentist said it is very common and not to worry about it, just work at keeping my teeth as clean as possible.
  • Thanks ladies - wish it were better news - but, this is what I figured it would be :(
  • Yep, I have it too.  My dentist just said to use Listerine and to keep flossing and that everything should go back to normal after I have the baby.
