Road trip suggestions?

I'm thinking about taking a little road trip next month with DS and my mom (DH will be gone on a business trip and I don't feel like being home alone the entire time he is gone). 

I really wanted to go to Big Cedar Lodge in Branson, MO but I think it's about a 9-10 hour drive, and stops with DS would make it probably 12-13 hours.  

Since DS will only be 6.5 months I don't want to spend too many hours in the car.  Any suggestions of good places to go that are no more than a 6 or 7 hour drive from Chicago?

    Chicago magazine does an issue with suggestions every year-maybe check out their website.  You could do many places in Wisc, Southern Michigan?

    LOVE Saugatuck, Michigan.  It is an "artist's community" and very family friendly.  Adorable shops, restaurants, but it's not crazy expensive.  Only about 2.5 hours away.  We are renting a house there Father's Day weekend on a lake- can't wait!!!

    Galena is awesome and it's only 3 hours away.

    I agree, Galena is awesome.  It is a cute little town with good food, wine, and some interesting shopping.
