Breastfeeding

if i just start pumping at night

How long will it take to build up? I usually feed DS around 8:30-9 and go to bed around 10:30. I plan on starting to pump at 10 each night from now on to build up a stash for a work trip.  I don't even get an ounce combined at this point, but will it build up if I do it consistently?

  • It will probably build up but you'll have an easier time if you pump in the morning after DS's first feeding of the day (I do it while I put my makeup on/get ready).  You've got more milk in the morning than you do at night.  I usually get more milk at that pumping than any other even though I've just fed DD (although she only nurses from one side).

That's what I've heard, but it is just kinda difficult since I WAH w/my LO. What does your LO do while you are pumping?

  • She plays in her crib.  I know that from the time I feed her I have about 30-45 min to get ready and pump before she gets bored and starts screaming.  I put her in her crib with a couple of toys she likes and she seems pretty content.  Some days I have to keep walking in there and re-winding the mobile.  If she's really grumpy and not having it, I just try and keep her entertained long enough to pump (usu no more than 15 min) and then take her out and try and get ready while entertaining her.  She's pretty good about just playing in her crib for a little while though.
  • Thanks, my DS is about the same age... I should try that!
