CDs and daycare ... (clicky for fun)

The daycare I like the best doesn't do CDs (yet) ... the director said she'd have to look into it ...

Would you be okay with doing 'sposies just at daycare if it's a place that you think you trust and are happy sending your LO and just suck up the non-EFness of the diaper situation?

I'm afraid if I keep looking for somewhere that will do CDs that I'll be looking a LOOOOONG time.  Sad

Unless someone wants to move to KC and watch my DD and her fluffy bum!

ETA:  I may campaign and try to get them interested in CDs either way to show them how easy they truly are.

  • I'd definitely campaign them to use the CD's.  Because the sposies are just one more thing to add to the budget.  Sposies and daycare made it not feasible for me to really return to work because I wouldn't bring much home with declining salaries in the current/recent economy.

The only daycare my husband would consider (because he knew all about my experiences with working at the one in Blue Springs) is the one at his work, and that would take most of my income. And they don't take breastmilk OR CDs, so it looks like I'm going to stay home and work on my masters without the hassle of having to go to work.

Okay, I can maybe see not taking CDs, but not taking BM?  That's crazy!  I'd have stayed home too!

  • I'd definitely show them pockets or AIO's, but having to use disposables would not keep me from sending my DS to the place that I felt most comfortable that HE was going to be taken care of well.  I'm afraid my confidence in how he will be treated far outweighs CDing.

  • I had to talk my daycare into them using CD's. It wasnt hard once I brought a couple in and showed them how easy it was these days. Most people still think of them as being strictly prefolds and pins.

I would try and talk with your favorite daycare and see if they will switch but in the mean time if you need a daycare and none of them do CD's there is nothing you can do but go to one you trust and deal with the non EFness of it.

Seriously, that is insane!  Why wouldn't they take BM?

But for me trusting that my child is in good hands is more important than CD.  Luckily I found a place I love that does CD!

  • We searched high and low and could not find any day care providers (approved centers) in our area who would cloth diaper. Home day cares would, but not centers. We chose a center ultimately, and I hate the sposies.
  • I consider not taking CDs a symptom of a possibly bad daycare, but not necessarily.  Our DC actually prefers the CDs, and I think most would once they're educated about them.  The daycare workers don't have to do any extra work, and there are far fewer blowouts with our diapers than with the disposables.  Furthermore, they have all commented that the CD kids potty train faster, which is better for them down the road.  I think most daycares that won't do it simply don't know enough about them.  The reason it could be a symptom of a bad daycare is that they're unwilling to work with parents.  Our daycare will CD, lets me bring in my own food for DD, and is very amenable to all of my requests, which is a big part of why we love them.  It could be that CDs are the only request they're not on board with, or it could be a symptom of a larger problem.
  • I agree with karela about the most important thing being finding a daycare that is responsive to your family's & your LO's needs. Thankfully our daycare that we LOVE & have been so happy with for our older son was on board with our CD. We think highly of them, and feel so comfortable with their care for our little guys that I would not have changed daycare providers over CDing.

I would, however, not send my child to a daycare that didn't accept BM. I have never heard of such a thing. That makes me sad.

This is what we were told over a year ago, but I have a friend who takes her daughter there, so it might have changed. I don't feel like asking. If I'm tired and unmotivated right now, I don't want to think what it will be like in the spring with 3 grad classes, a newborn and 40+ hour work week. No thanks, I'll just stay home.

  • I am lucky enough to have both rolled into one! (and it is next door to my work so I will be close to my LO all day)
