Have we talked about being naked yet?

My parents weekly email this week was about your kids seeing you and your partner naked: should you/should you not?

When do you stop letting your kid see their non same sex parent with out clothes on, or do you ever stop?

Semi related: Walter wants to watch every person he sees go to the bathroom.  If we have people over and they go into the bathroom he wants to come too.  If we are at someone elses house and someone says they have to go to the bathroom he wants to come too.  We've gotten weird looks from non-parent friends!

My nephew was like this, when he was potty-training.  He'd come in, hand you some paper, tell you when to flush, and then to wash your hands.  He was especially intrigued with the fact that my dad and my brother stand to pee. :-)

  • Madelyn still sees both of us naked - and will continue to see me naked until she tells me she's uncomfortable with that (I'm guessing Junior High age?)

I'm not sure at what point we'll restrict her seeing Jim naked.  If anything, I'd like for it just to be a natural part of our lives. If she's in the room when he's changing, she's going to see him - but we don't go out of our way to shield her.  Just show what we consider to be appropriate modesty.

I personally would rather she see Jim's body and ask the two of us questions than start exploring with other kids...and from what I hear, that's pretty normal.

  • I've been curious about this too. My guy and I didn't really see any problem, but now she points to his bits and says "whadidat?" and we answer, but of course, being 15 months, she says it and points over and over again. That can get a little uncomfortable for my guy, so he usually dresses pretty quickly. I don't know what we're going to do, but I'm curious about everyone else!

  • I'm interested in the responses too, I haven't had to think about it yet as he's still too young to really know what's going on in that arena. He's not usually in the room when we're changing, just because it's usually before he's up or after he's asleep, but I know that will change.

  • I think I'll worry about it when he starts even noticing anything.  At this point, I still take a shower sometimes with Ben.  He likes to draw with bath crayons on the shower door and I sneak-clean him while he thinks he's just playing.  :)
