Any other LOs drop to low weight % around 6months?

Birth = 7 lbs 2oz
2 months = 9 lbs 8oz
4 months = 11 lbs 6oz
6 months = 12 lbs 9oz

We were in the 40-50th percentile for weight until the 6th month checkup last week... she is now in the 5th%.  All other measurements for length and head size are on track in the 40-50% though.

I don't think they are using a separate chart for BFers cause the doc was asking what formula we were using.  He isn't too concerned yet cause all other things are on track and she is content and meeting milestones... so he wasn't asking to start supplementing.

We have been on solids 1xday for 3 weeks and she does ok but not taking in a ton. Great BFer though day and night (we bedshare) so I know she is eating plenty... maybe just a petite girl.

I wonder though since my LO started army-crawling last week, been more active sitting and tons of jumping in her jumperoo the past month... maybe around this stage others have a little dip in their weight gain rate?  Any thoughts?

  • we went down to about the 10th% around 6 months and have been there ever since. He's just a skinny boy.  His iron was a bit low at 1 year, but nothing too bad.

  • Mine was born at 41st percentile and was in the 7th at 8 months. At our 6 month appointment my doctor was not concerned, he just wanted her to be eating more solids, which we delayed until 6 months. I am interested to see how our 9 month appointment goes, but DD is SUPER active and is a light eater so we know why she is a lightweight.

  • I can't remember if my son started dropping at 4 mos or 6 mos - but he dropped off the curve for a while and now maintains (at nearly 3) around the 5th percentile. I figure someone has to be at the 5th percentile, right?

     Around 9 mos, we added in full fat yogurt and I did have to do some supplementing with formula (but that was related to me not pumping enough).

    Try not to worry! (as long as DC is meeting milestones, otherwise healthy, etc.)

  • Thats what I thought.  Most of the doc's patients are formula fed.  We are upping solids to 2xday as of this weekend.  Hope it helps but thus far she is doing well on all other accounts so I am not too worried.  Thanks ladies!

  • Yes! My DD started off in the 50th, then was in the 25th and at her 6 month well visit (Fri the 16th) she dropped to the 10th. She only gained one pound from 4-6 months. I've started solids and when she is too distracted to breastfeed (which is a lot), I bring her to a dark room. I think she'll be ok.

    Glad it wasn't just us!
