dingy whites (laundry)?

We have been using 7th Generation laundry detergent for the last two or three years. I don't know why, but I just happened to notice (now!) that our white clothing (t-shirts, socks, towels etc) are very dingy/gray looking. I asked Dh about it and he said "Oh they've been like that ever since we switched laundry deteregents". Apparently I am not very observant...

Has anyone else noticed this? Is there something I can add to brighten them back up?

Or what about the homemade laundry soap that I see posted about? Our current jug of 7th Gen is just about out so I am in the market anyway...

Re: dingy whites (laundry)?

  • a good soak in oxygen bleach (like oxyclean) and some sunning would be my rec

  • Also, keep in mind that 7th Gen probably doesn't have any optical brighteners (stuff that makes your clothes look whiter than they are), so they will be a little less bright in general - even after bleach/sunning.

  • Oxygen bleach and/or borax in with the whites, and sunning works for us!! :)
