A scat mat is a flat pad, you can put it on your kitchen table, counters, couches, bed, wherever you don't want to cat. It has 3 settings and when the cat jumps on it, it gives them a slight shock. It is supposed to "train" them, but when I remove them, my cats go right back. So we use one on our bed at all times and on the kitchen table when we're not there. They are pretty expensive, but once your cat knows what it is, you can get a dummy scat mat for much cheaper.
It doesn't hurt them, we've all tried it out!
My birthson who came before I was ready. He doesn't call me mom but I love him just the same. ~7/10/99~
We have two. One 16 pound Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Cede. And one 100 pound Cane Corso Mastiff, Mara. Both girls.
Our plan is to train the dogs that they are not allowed to cross the threshhold of the nursery. They can sit by the door, but not come in.
The reasons for that Cede is a lap dog and I can see her trying to jump in my lap while I'm feeding or rocking to sleep. Plus if I go in there at night and she follows me, I don't want to get under foot and trip me. And for Mara ... well she is a small dog trapped in a big dog body. She is clumsy as all get out and I don't need her running into furniture, making a lot of noise and knocking stuff over.
We have one dog... an all black Miniature Schnauzer named Flutie (yes, after Doug Flutie -- DH is a football fan!). He's the sweetest dog ever, but he's not used to children and is actually kinda scared of them! He's going to baby proofing classes this summer!
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

Cat - Sparta!, Also known as the spawn of Satan, or DH's other wife. We don't see any problem with her wanting to be IN the crib, she just wants to hide UNDER it.
My 2 babies are below in my signature! Both shelter dogs that were abandoned. :-(
That is so sad...I always love seeing the pics of your pooches here! All of mine are from Morris Animal Refuge in Philly. Rescues are the sweetest! I can't even say that...I love ALL animals!
We have a Golden Retriever, seen in my pic below. He is the sweetest most mild dog ive ever known, He's super high energy but only when he is outside of the house. indoors he does not jump, does not bark, he's not a licker, he's unbelievably tolerant of our 4 year who litterally sits on him to watch tv and he is the biggest momma's boy in the world. His name is Chevy, he'll be 3 next month and i couldnt ask for a better family dog..he's our chevy baby
We have 4 pets - 3 dogs, 1 cat! We have a monster Siberian Husky named Rizzo, a Chiweiner named Jasmine, a Border Collie named Oscar, and a cat name Lolli-Pop! We had a pot bellied pig as well, but lost him Christmas morning!
One cat - Morgana, she will be 11 in September but acts like she's 4. She's the queen of the house and I think she will be quite the protector.
One dog - Rajah, a 7 yr old retired racing greyhound. He's a gentle soul and probably won't care, one way or another, that there will be a baby in the house.
I'm going to be the crzy one that has the menagerie of pets! My dad has kept my pets from PA that I couldn't take with me and my pets that my mom has had since I left for PA. So here's the list:
Mack: 7 year old husky/australian shepherd, he's gorgeous!
Gimli: 5 year old yorkie (I named him lol)
Timmi: 5 year old yorkie (It's a girl)
Sugar: 3 year old pug
Suzie Q: 2 year old dachshund, she's a tripod. She lost her leg a few months ago due to cancer, but she's a sweetheart!
And my one and only kitty! Sammi: 13 year old persian. He is my baby and will always be my baby. I feed him cheehtos! lol it's his favorite food.
We had another dog. My fiance and I had gotten her when we moved in together. However, we couldn't keep her when we moved so she is with my aunt working as a therapy dog. She is a year old sheltie. She was my baby Bella!

We have a Boston Terrier, Tyson, and a Boxer Tucker- whom we rescued from someone that had him in a crate all day and let him pee and poop on the balcony of her apt. Some people! But both are my sweet boys!
We have two dogs -- a Siberian husky and a lab mix (sig pics). Both are great around kids and we've been having friends over with infants, so hopefully the good behavior continues. I'm definitely concerned about them feeling left out as they are very close to me and used to being the objects of our attention, but we're doing everything we can to prepare and make the transition easier for them. We also have one horse -- he was actually the first horse my parents bought me, and he's been with from high school until now and all over the US and Canada. I've had him for something like 13 years now! He's kinda semi-retired from the jumper ring, but he's still carting my pregnant butt around. We had to put my younger horse down last fall, but actually doing so was part of what prompted the baby conversations... she was supposed to be my up-and-coming show horse and competing her was part of why we were putting off having a baby (both financially and physical readiness), so in a way, putting her down put us on the baby path!
Re: Tell me about your family pets...

2011 Reading Challenge
We have 4 FIV+ cats (kind of like HIV for humans, & not communicable between cats and people): Ulysses, Leopold, Lucius, and Nadia.
If we didn't have the cats, we would probably have my brother's dog Rosco (11 year old Boston Terrier) living with us.
