Anyone give lo rice cereal?

So I am going to try rice cereal in her bottle tonight for the first time. I heard that she will most likely sleep longer.... Anyone try this?

I read in What To Expect that this is a myth. I don't know if it is a good idea anyway because her digestive system may not be ready yet. GL!

Outdate myth....unless she has reflux in which case the pedi will tell you how much to give to help that.

Not yet. My pedi told me that today they like parents to wait until 6 months to start cereal, however she is realistic. She said to do our best to wait until at least 4 months. Because I have a large baby (24 inches long, 12.5lbs at his 2 month appointment) she said I may find that DS will need it sooner to be satisfied. She basically told us to play it by ear. So far, we haven't needed it. He drinks about 4oz per feeding during the day and a nice big bottle before bed (usually 6-7oz). For the most part, we'll get a good 5 hour stretch out of him.

Our medical supply company (LO is fed thru a tube, so we get formula from them) accidentally sent us the Enfamil with Rice for babies who spit up (he's supposed to have gentlease for gas). He gained 1 pound in two days, and was insanely constipated.

Back on regular formula, and we haven't had a single issue.

Rice now scares me, lol.

I was given rice cereal when I was a baby after month and then my SIL gave all three of her kids cereal bottles between 1-2 months and yes they did start sleeping more because it fills their bellies more so they tend not to wake for feedings as often. I have known several others that agree with this too!

My SIL did this for her LO and it didn't help at all. He just threw it all up.

The AAP says to wait until 6 months.

Its one thing to give it for reflux, but I can't imagine giving it just so she might sleep longer.

their digestive systems are not ready for that. unless your pedi tells you to give it for reflux I wouldn't give cereal.

MYTH! Even when I started DS on solids, he still didn't sleep longer.

We started Emerson at 2 months because our pedi said the same thing. Wrong! It didn't help her sleep longer and it really upset her stomach and gave her gas. Her digestive system is just not ready at 2 months. We ended up getting up more often because she has gas so bad it hurt and she couldn't sleep. So not worth it.

Yep 4 ml a night d had awful gurgly belly I could hear it in other room no longer does it. I think she only slept 30 mins longer tho

i tried this last night.. and lo was up every hour still lol. i only put 1/4 of what they tell you to tho. so idk if thats the reason
