In Shock -- REFERRAL!!!!!

My social worker just called and told me that Peru had a matching session yesterday without publicizing it on their website.

HE'S OURS!!!  M'S OUR SON!!!!!

I'm in shock.  I was thinking it would be at least another 2 weeks before they scheduled and held a meeting.  When I saw her number and heard her voice, I thought she was calling to tell me that she received the authenticated copies of our updated documents, or that our lawyer learned more about the matching session delays, or that we have news that someone else is/isn't requesting to parent M....  I never expected what she said next:

I just got a call from Dr. B. [our lawyer] and he said SNA held a consejo yesterday without publicising it, and you...received a referral.  I'm not sure of the specifics, so I don't know for sure if it's the little boy you requested, but I imagine it is.

Then, we went online together, and they had published the results.  It's M!  M's our son!

I never expected to hear this today.  I was crying and shaking and laughing, and trying to figure out our timeline, and trying to get off the phone so I could tell my husband....

When I told him, all he kept saying was "Wow....  Wow....  Wow..." over and over again.

We talked about what comes next for a little bit, and then decided to talk more tonight.  It doesn't seem real.  It's...wow.  OMG, I'm the mommy!

    Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • Thanks, Everyone!

    We don't know how soon we will travel.  We are only the second Hague case from Peru that has gotten this far with our agency.  Here's what's supposed to happen now:

     - we get the official referral in writing;

     - we accept in writing, and tell them we will travel as soon as we get approval to do so from US Immigration;

     - they send certain paperwork to US Immigration for them to investigate the case;

     - US Immigration approves the case, and sends a letter to the US Embassy in Peru (I think?)

     - the US Embassy in Peru (I think?) issues a letter granting us provisional approval to bring him home, and we can travel!

    It took the last woman 8 weeks before she was granted permission to travel, but Peru had a glitch gathering the paperwork she needed.  We're hoping we'll be able to travel in somewhere around 6 weeks!

  • Woo Hoo!!  So happy for you!

     I hope you can travel in 4-6 weeks to meet him.

     How very exciting!

    TTC #1 for over 5 years - too many to count IF treatments (tried everything and anything), repeat miscarriages. Finally, Sticky Success!! B/G Twins arrived 2011. VOTE on my Name List Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

    To help you out with a timeline - from the time we accepted in writing (received by our agency) to the time we received a letter from USCIS saying they approved our case and was sending it to the Embassy was about 2 weeks - so hopefully you receive your letter very quickly after accepting the referral in writing!

  • Congrats!  What great news for your family!

    Our USCIS approval only took 2 weeks too. That was very fast for Haiti at the time (the one thing that went quickly for us).
