My earliest CD memory is of my dad swishing one of my sister's pfs in the toilet. Mmmmm.... They used a service. I think my dad was surprised when we weren't going to - that he was a bit icked out by us washing our own. Funny - I am icked out by dunk & swishing!

My mom did it for a few weeks/months (varies depending on the mood she is in when telling the story) but stopped. She used a diaper service and though the diapers looked old and dingy so she switched to sposies.

My H was born before they had disposables. They had just started making them a year later when his sister was born and his mom tells us stories about them.
It is great to have them both on board to CD when they come down to babysit.
I was only CD'd for a week. My mom didn't like the dunking.
You only have to dunk if you're FF right? Or if the baby's eating solids? I read that breastmilk is water soluable and because it's an organic material it can be released into the sewer/septic with no problems. You can just pop it in the washer as is... am I wrong about this?

You never have to dunk. FF poo is also water soluble, we just place dipes in the pail and it all washes out. When baby starts solids, you will have to employ a method of removing the poo which could be dunking or scraping or spraying - personal choice (we scrape).
I'm a Special Snowflake. I was CD'd... for a while. I apparently got a lovely rash and it went away as soon as they switched to sposies. I am planning on CDing. I have a feeling that there were several things that could have made my butt happier, like different detergent, no rubber pants, no rubber pants in the summer in Illinois, etc.
I know my mom CD'd me and all of my siblings. I learned how to pin a diaper when I was eight (not without adult supervision), because I was the little helper. My parents had a diaper service that I remember for my brother and sisters, but I think they had some of their own for me. My mom still has some of the flats from me that she uses as dust rags.
JT/gLove-my mom tried for a couple weeks with me, but switched. i think this is a huge part of why she is soooo against it for me. she needs validated for quitting.
I'm using some of the CDs my mom used on me on Max. They have little diaper service QC number stamps on the corners, though I know she also washed some herself.
CDs are normal in my mind - disposables have always been really gross to me.
I wasn't, but my mom is REALLY supportive. In fact, she brought it up to me before I even mentioned it to her. She says if they had had the types we have now back then, she would have in a heart beat.
Re: Clicky poll: were you CDed?
11 months
I am 99% sure that I was not cded. Disposables were fairly new so my parents used them for convenience.
But, DH and his brother were CDed.
Me too. Although my mom liked to tell everyone I was allergic to cloth
Same here.
My mom used a combo.

This. She STILL uses them to clean -- 26 years later!
