Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Does your baby monitor freak you the heck out?

We just started using one since she slept in our room until a few weeks ago.

I always hear the sounds of her sound machine on ocean waves, which is nice, but then I'll start to hear voices and radio stations, etc.

It honestly freaks me out completely. Am I the only one?

  • Yes.....  I hear some neighbors arguing and yelling from time to time.  I have no idea which neighbors they are (as we really don't know know any of them.)

  • btw.... with my above response... we also rarely use ours for said reasons.  We always make sure to shut off the part in her room ASAP.

  • Yeah, we just quit using it after a few months because it freaked me out so much.  It made every. little. noise. so. loud.  I couldn't get a bit of sleep!

The worst monitor story I heard was from a mom who had a video monitor.  She completly lost it when she saw a strange man in her baby's room.  Turns out, her monitor swapped signals with another video monitor in her apartment complex.  I would have had a heart attack!

  • Nope. Try switching the channel it's on. You're just getting interference from neighbors and/or other electronic devices. More common if you have a video monitor + wireless + other techy gadgets in your house.

  • I haven't heard voices or radio on ours, but sometimes the static and interference gets loud and it will wake me up.
  • When DS finally started sleeping through the night (at 10 months of age and after he'd recovered from surgery, so you can imagine how desperately both of us needed a full night's sleep), I heard a baby crying on the monitor.  Got up to check on DS only to realize he was sound asleep.  The baby was some other baby crying.  "GREAT!" I thought.  My baby is finally sleeping through the night and I still don't get to because somebody else's baby is waking me up.  I was so upset!
