Hi ladies....I'm a future BF'er...once LO gets here and as long as the plumbing all works properly. I hope to be able to get lots of advice and tips from you wonderful mamas.
I saw something on 2nd tri, and wanted your opinion. Here's the link:

It seems to me that STOPPING something that is supposed to happen could be a bad thing?? What do you think? I don't want to order something that is going to be a hinderance to my supply production. On the other hand, when I go back to work, stopping leaks almost sounds too good to be true.
Next question: Anyone have experience with the Medela Freestyle pump? That's what I registered for, and the thought behind it was that it's lightweight and convenient for pumping at work (I'm a veterinarian). Once I get pumping down, and the let-down thing isn't an issue, my other thought was that I could write charts while pumping. Good/bad idea?
Next question: Which nursing cover do you like & why? I know there are many brands, but I can't tell a real difference between any of them, other than patterns/colors/prices. Please recommend what you like.
Last question: When pumping, do you pump into a bottle, and then transfer to a "pump and save" bag (Medela) or do you pump directly into the bag? I registered for a bunch of bags, but wasn't quite sure if that was the right thing to do or not. I hope to use the Tommee Tippee bottles, but those obviously won't fit the pump.
Thanks for answering my very beginner questions... I appreciate the help! Looking forward to getting to know more soon!
Re: Popping in from PgAL w/ a few questions
1. No experience with Lily pads but other people have said they like them. I use Lansinoh disposables, and they're fabulously absorbent. I was really leaky at first, but then after 2 months or so, only during nursing (dual let down) did I need anything.
2. No experience with the Freestyle, but yes, you can do charts while pumping once you get the hang of it. You don't even need a hands free bra - I just stick them in my nursing ones with the clips still attached.
3. I use an Udder Cover. It's cheap, it's got the stiff V neck and adjustable shoulder strap. It gets the job done. So long as you have the stiff neck and an adjustable shoulder strap and a reasonable amount of fabric, I don't think it really matters. I'm sure those who spent more money might disagree, but for $8, I've been very satisfied with my cheap version.
4. I (and most ppl on this board) pump into bottles and store in Lansinoh bags. They're a lot cheaper than Medela ($10 at Target for 50 bags). On the downside, you can't pump into them, but I really don't find this to be a hassle at all. The bottles you'll end up using will be whatever baby likes, regardless what we like. DS hated Avent and loved Nuk. Sweet deal for me - the Nuk bottles are cheaper than most.
GL and good for you for planning ahead for bfing!
1. I love my Lillypadz. I only use them when going out, but they work really well. I use washable pads at home. After about 3 months the leaking is minimal, so you won't need much.
2. I have the PISA and loved it. It is an older model and isn't working as well as it used to, but still great. If I was going to buy a new one it would be the Freestyle.
3. I have a Hooter Hider and it is fine. I also have a poncho type cover that is just OK. I like the ease of the Hooter Hider.
4. I pump into the bottle first so that I can sort of even out the milk to freeze. Plus in the bottle you know exactly how much milk there is. You can't go by the markings on the bags. I try and have all my frozen bags either 2 or 3 oz each. It makes it easier for fixing bottles.
I have never seen the Tommy Tippee bottles. some bottles have adaptors to pump into them, so it might be worth looking into.
I am not very leaky either and predominately use the pads to protect my nipples from rubbing on clothes and protect my clothes from lanisoh cream. I use the Avent disposables and feel they are very comfortable.
I have a medela PISA and don't really know much about the freestyle. The medela pump and save bags can't be used to pump directly into with the freestyle (at least that is what the package says). I currently pump into the medela bottles and pour into the pump and save bags but do plan to pump into the bags directly when I return to work. I don't pump directly into them now because I am BFing and pumping to build a stash and usually only get 1-1.5oz per breast at a time and you can only pump into the bags at one session. I don't want to freeze a bunch of 1 oz bags.
I have two bebe au lait covers and like them because they have a ring at the top to allow me to see DD. They are also very large and so I like the coverage they provide. They have a little terry cloth at the corners to wipe her face if she drips and little pockets to put the breast pads in. They are a little more expensive (though I found them on sale), but since I only bought two I wasn't that worried about the cost.
