how to make baby clothes soft??

I washed all the baby clothes I've received as gifts and line dried yesterday. They all came off the line feeling so hard, especially the denim pieces.  What can I use to soften them? I want to line dry and I dont want to use fabric softener.

    we put a little vinegar in ours and I think it helps

    I do a little vinegar in the rinse.

    I also line dry, but if the clothes end up crunchy I toss them in the dryer (once they're dry) for two or three minutes and it makes them softer.

    I'd say this is your best bet if you have a dryer. I'd throw them in just for a couple minutes with some dryer balls. It should help.
