Returning a product to Target...your experiences/advice...

We registered for a Graco Nautilus for our shower over a year ago.  (I didn't know it couldn't rear face, duh).  MIL purchased it for us in March.  We would like to exchange it for another carseat.  It's unopened and we have the receipt, but it says it has to be returned within 90 days of the event day (baby shower).  Have you ever exchanged/returned something to Target even if it was after the 90 days?  TIA.

  • They suck, most of the time. Sometimes, if you explain the situation and ask to see a manager they will help you out.

  • If you have the receipt I don't think it will matter if she bought it this past March.  I think the 90 days from event rule is only if you are trying to return without a receipt

  • I have never had any problems with Target. A lot of times I don't even have the receipt and if it's a product they sell they just give me a gift card for the lowest price (ie if it was on sale).

I think it is 90 days regardless, and they are awful with refunds/exhchanges. Could you try to take it somewhere else to exchange like Walmart?

  • it may depend on the target you go to. i had a gift from my wedding registry that i needed to return. had not gift receipt, but i went to return it about 3 days after i received it. they would not let me return it even though it clearly came from my registry. at my target they are very strict with returns being made only with a receipt and only within the 90 days. i've returned things that you can clearly tell we opened, and as long as we had the receipt it was fine. we make sure we never throw our target receipts away for this reason. but then i've heard of other people going to a different target and having no issue returning something w/out a receipt. my experience w/ them is not the best.

Target's return policy is terrible. The only thing that might save you is your registry. Good luck.

  • I guess we are just going to have to try.  I have a feeling this is going to be tough.  I am more pi$$ed at myself that I had no idea what we were looking for when we registered.  Now just when we go to install it I"m like WTF?
  • I've never had a problem with them. Since it's past 90 days, i think you are better off returning without a receipt for store credit at lowest sale price in the last 30 days.
