Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Flouride for babies?

Does anyone give their baby flouride with vitamins?  Our dr. prescirbed them for dd and I'm reading mixed reviews on the necessity of it.  DD is breastfed, so I know she isn't getting flouride via water.  I'm just wondering if anyone else does or has opinions of giving this to infants.

  • Funny. I was just thinking of posting this today and didn't get to it yet. Needless to say, I'm looking for opinions about this too

  • We give fluoride vits to DS (have since 6 months). I know there is some debate, but both pedi and developmental pedi emphasized the importance of fluoride.
  • If baby is getting no other source of fluoride, and is over 6 months,it is a good idea to use a supplement. The key is to make sure they getting the right amount which I am sure your doc probably prescribed the correct dosage. We use fluoridated nusery water but when DD switches to cows milk,we will give a supplement. I am a hygienist so I see the benefits.

  • We have to do that too because they don't add fluoride to our public water. I guess I'm ok with it because if we lived a county over where they do add it, he'd be getting the same amount anyway.

  • Ugh. Please ignore the typos in my pp. I can't edit from my phone.

  • I wish our pedi had suggested it. We use Poly-Vi-Sol but I don't know if it has flouride in it, and all of the baby toothpastes are flouride free.

  • we use it. our county doesn't have flouride in the water, so DD needs some source of flouride.
